Lights test does not work for AoA indexer

As the titles says, performing the lights test with the master test switch does not light up the AoA indexer lights. IIRC it used to work up until the interior lighting overhaul.

works on my end 100% of the time. Unless directly illuminated by the sun, they are visible. (there also have been no changes to lights since our lightning hotfix)

could be your gamma. most everything is tuned for 2.2, I have mine at 2.2. monitor, as well as programs etc... Try if it makes a difference.

Yeah, no. Since 2.5.6 using anything above 2.0 results in a super bright, bloomy and overly washed out picture, especially in the external view. It's horrible. Maybe you should talk to ED and ask them why there was a need to slap on a HDR + bloom filter onto the game. And again, other bulbs/indicators seem bright enough regardless of your gamma setting, yet the AOA indexer amongst some other lights and indicators in the RIO cockpit are way too dim or barely readable.

Like, I don't know anyone in their right mind who uses anything above 2.0 gamma in the current build.

Almost certain Wags himself plays with Gamma set to 1.6 and suggests that anything over 1.8 is unrealistic. So that doesn’t seem right you could say that it’s all tuned for 2.2.

Wags suggests wrong then, or for reasons unbeknown to me, and that might be very well his personal preference, but I think pretty much all monitors are tuned to a standard of 2.2. An exception was Mac so far, with a standard of 1.8, which was meant for a colourless workflow, means work that does not demand to work with colors in a professional way, which is why graphic ppl who worked with a mac always had a second monitor, in order to portray colors correctly ect. Now, I am not an expert in this either, but you can trust me, or better yet google yourself, that the standard for gamma is 2.2

You'll excuse me for being quick and pragmatic in just posting a wiki link here

If you squint /zoom in you can see them. they're dim but they are "working"

And I'm sure standard Gamma is 2.2, but since when has ED been standard anything?

Sounds like another case of no Explicit design guidelines by ED.

very weird if you cant see them. I wonder if it has to do with monitor settings etc some folks might use as well? For me they are just as bright as the other lights - not disputing how it is for you guys ofc.

I forwarded it to Cobra, so we can take a look.

No. You could see them before, namely in 2.5.5, before the lighting "rework", same settings, same everything. Just adjust the brightness levels and call it a day.

No but it couldn’t have anything to do with them? Must certainly be the sunlight... oh well if not that must be the gamma setting... hmmm well obviously it has to be your monitor settings...

Some more findings from my side:

If you spawn in a running jet, the AoA indexer will work with the light test.

If you however spawn cold and dark, the AoA indexer will remain dark during light test (see screenshot).

2.2 is physically correct gamma space for the engine with the current tonemapper, default, and is what we use as baseline.

Ok regardless of gamma, why are most other light after the rework bright enough and visible quite well? Why was the indexer bright and visible since release up until 2.5.6?

are you spawning cold and dark when you do the test? or hot?

Maybe you have the same issue like SlyFa. I havent gotten around to test that yet.

btw, on another note, airhunter. in the screenshots you posted earlier, I can clearly see your indexer lights. this is a screenshot of your screenshot:

So maybe it is an issue with your monitor? I really couldnt tell.

(Just noticed this while looking at your screenshots)

I can see them too but they are very dim, even compared to the various other lights in the cockpit. There is nothing wrong with my monitor in any game or application. All everybody on here is asking is for you to slightly up the brightness/visibility of said AOA indexer lights, that's it. And plese don't come with the "but in real life the lights were dim" argument, we are talking desktop sim here and you already made several "unrealistic" decisions in favor of DCS being a game, like the overly load switches, so why not apply the same logic here? Clearly no one complained about this before the lighting rework.
