DCS FIGHTER PILOT
In the fighters that I fly in DCS and BMS, it seems to be much more difficult to acquire a radar lock on a target that is cold. I completely understand why it would be difficult to get a target beaming but why cold? Would the radar not just as easily see the red shift in the target as it does the blue or are there other factors in play?
DCS FIGHTER PILOT
WOW........................... Luckily it just dawned on me. Glad my Physics professor did not see this. Obviously relative velocities, man oh man. Edited July 15, 2019 by DCS FIGHTER PILOT
Fynek
Yes if you both have a similar speed it can probably fool the doppler radar.

Obviously relative velocities, man oh man. I hope you were using your hands to figure out, you know how a fighter pilot would ;) New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. nighthawk2174
Essentially it comes down to the doppler effect when a wave hits something that is approaching it the reflected wave will get compressed and a retreating target will cause this reflected wave to get stretched out. The stretched out wave is what makes it harder to detect a retreating target. If you want to learn more this is the best place to start imo: https://falcon.blu3wolf.com/Docs/Electronic-Warfare-Fundamentals.pdf Its a great intro into EW and radar tech, next up i'd check out this website: https://basicsaboutaerodynamicsandavionics.wordpress.com/ it adds a bit more onto what the intro to EW doc says. And finally if you want to go deep i'd recommend Radar Handbook by Merril Skolnik and EW 101 and EW 102 by David Adamy you can find copies of these online if you know where to look.
