So who likes the new F-86 canopy and increased gun smoke?

Dunno, I see some pretty heavy reflections in this vid, in release its only really bad in certain angles with the sun, which I think would be expected, atleast with a fighter from this time... not sure there were as many innovations in glass as we have now...

It's not the reflections that are disliked, the reflections are great.... it's the dirtiness/opaqueness of the glass.

I totally agree. The smudgy dirt or whatever makes it very difficult to keep your eyes on targets/planes near the ground. I would rather have a clean canopy.

Please fix the guns smoke. It's over the top and causes frame rate performance issues.

And it wouldn't hurt for the ground crew to clean the canopy.

maybe add a request in the mod thread for one of the guys to make a JSGME compatible mod?

I've had such a mod up for a few weeks. You can get it here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1169830/

This will remove cockpit shimmering when zoomed out, and also replace the current canopy with a clearer one.

Enjoy,

How to fix the ponderously opaque canopy:

Swap the F-86F_Cockpit_glass.dds file from Grizzly's superb cockpit mod with the one found at C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F-86\Cockpit\Resources\Model\Textures\F-86F-35-CPT-TEXTURES.zip and Voila! you can see again.

That works like a charm, great suggestion!

I uploaded a file called F-86F Sabre No Gun Smoke Mod - JSME ready which is being checked by a moderator but in the mean time for those who cant wait simple edit the F-86.lua (found in CoreMods)

Change line 47 "SmokeEffect" to something like "NoSmokeEffect" which is better than deleting the texture file as it just calls a non existent one.

I'm Dunravin' now but the file is uploaded as user plugnplay

this aircraft is so nice in its simplicity but the cigar that gets into my lungs makes firing guns undesirable. In Mig-21, I like how the bullets are smokeless (perhaps I'm exaggerating) but my FPS does not go down that dastardly as with the P-51/F-86. ED, please solve this smoke enigma, soonish!

I think Belsimtek needs to hire a new window cleaner, thats not using dirty water, and get some soap into it, for gods sake!

I just remembered after online play today, how we used to pay kids in Las Palmas, to NOT clean the window, when we drived into the City. On holiday many years ago.

Edit; Just to make it clear, the server I was in used Labels, so it wasn't too bad, but I guess this also explains why I was alone playing there, only F-86 vs MiG-15's in this mission.

And you start thinking how smart the guy doing this is, maybe he read the A-10 smoke is awesome? And think it's still 'awesome' with 50 cals?

Just to do a comparison between the 30mm on A-10 and 6x 50cal on a F-86, you see big difference.

Kind of a coincidense but the propellants in those two cartridges has 153g in 30mm, and 15.3g in 12.7 or 50 cal.

30mm x 173mm vs 12.7 x 99mm.

up to 4200rpm on A-10 gun, so I use 4200 in this example

50cal are about 1200 rpm.

4200rpm x 153g = 642,6 Kg/m

6 x 1200 = 7200rpm

7200rpm x 15.3g = 110,16 Kg/m

Seems fair if the propellants produce about the same amount of smoke pr Kg, the A-10 would produce 6 times more smoke, or ~35 times over 1 single 50 cal.

Wow, nice fancy figures, but did you notice earlier in the thread I stated this is not an issue in EDGE/2.0 internally right now? Remember, the Sabre is still in Beta, so no need to fight so hard for something that is already fixed internally ;)

EDGE 2.0 was postponed , or was it only the Nevada Map?

There is no official release date right now, its expected some time in the first half of this year.

I was reading in here, maybe I misunderstood about the Hormuz map, or it has been edited. Now it says 99% ready.

I don't seem to be able to find it now, but I read earlier it was still work on AI road mapping, and collision models on buildings and trees.

No, Hormuz is about 60% done according to that intervew, the 99% is this:

Unlike the Hormuz map, the NTTR map is now operating within DCS World 2 and 99% of the work on this map now involves getting the map to function correctly within that environment.

So it could still be a year until it's released, and you meant we should be patient and live with the F-86 like it's now?
