New MSI Afterburner - VRAM usage per process

Recommended Posts

Have anyone tried this yet? It seems that the new version of MSI Afterburner allows you to check VRAM usage per process. Would be interesting to see DCS results especially with 3080 and VR :P

I tested this yesterday with Rift S and my 1070Ti 8Gb Vram was full allocated but DCS used ~6Gb when sitting in Mig-21 on ground (Syria) and ~5Gb in F-18. Not tested multiplayer yet. Settings was:

Textures: High

Terrain textures: High

Civ. Traffic: Low

Water: High

Visib range: High

Heat blur: Off

Shadows: Medium

Res. of Cockpit Displays: 1024

MSAA: Off

Depth of Field: Off

Lens effect: Off

Grass: Off

Trees: 70%

Preload radius: max

Chimney smoke: 1

Anisotropic filtering: 4x

Terrain object shadows: Flat

Cockpit global illumination: Off

With low Terrain textures Vram process usage was ~1Gb less.

Thank you for posting the new AB build. This new functionality is great---

On my 1080ti, the standard VRAM monitor showed all 11gb of VRAM allocated in the F-14 Turkey takeoff in the Syria map. I'm running triple 1440p monitors (7770x1440). Using the process VRAM monitor, putting it on 2x MSAA, high textures, and Extreme draw distance, flying over the most intense part of the city---it's actually using 9,395 mb of VRAM.

This is encouraging information---as I was eyeballing the 10gb 3080 (whenever it actually is available)---but have been concerned about VRAM. This pretty much worst case shows the 3080 should be fine and 3090 would be just total overkill.

Intel 8700K, delidded at 5.1 ghz, Asrock z370 Extreme4, 32gb DDR4 3200, MSI Ventus RTX 3080, triple 1440p Dell s2716dg screens, VKB Gunfighter Mk.I, Virpil M50-CM2 throttle, MFG Crosswind pedals.
