Mission Editor - CAP - Engagement Range

I would like to request a selection for the CAP role where you in mission editor can select max engagement range from the route/waypoints .

My reason for the request is that when setting up a air patrol they will engage targets without any limits as country borders or friend/foe zone etc. as two examples I have two missions. 1. where the patrol attacked/diverted 160nm out to sea from its CAP route inside Russia. 2. A cap patrol in Iran attacked air targets above UAE land.

This might be me setting up things wrong. But a more simple way to setup Cap routes would be doing something similar to setting up a escort flight where you select how close a enemy flight has to be to engage and what type.

"Search then engage in zone" already in advanced waypoint actions does exactly this.

Delete the default "CAP" tasking and add this instead as an Advanced Waypoint Action at SP (or WP0)

Not really. It will attack out of the zone if it detects a foe. where as with the escort duty it will stay until foe is within the selected range.

So if you want to make a defensive cap patrol along a country border. But don want it to attack across the border. But only attack inside its own borders. it wont work

The Mission Editor is really abandoned.

We got 2d models and ground patrol after YEARS of development, I don't remember exactly but at least since Lock On was realeased. Don't missunderstand me I love these features  but I think they should focus much more in AI and Mission Editor.

I use MOOSE for any mission I do. I use the class AI_A2A_DISPATCHER, one of the many (MANY) features it has the framework. It allows you to set up squadrons and areas for them to patrol. If a radar detects enemies it sends one of those patrols (or more if there are many enemies) to attack.

They will refuel in air if its available and land if they are damaged.

Also its possible to set the respawn rate.

It's much more work but once you set up everything you have a very nice replayable mission.

ATM the Mission Editor needs a lot of features.

I've just been having the same struggles with the ME and this problem.

The AI role of CAP paired with 'Search then engage in zone' definitely seems bugged and give mind bogglingly dumb results in game.

My easy workaround so far has been to set the AI role to 'Fighter Sweep' then delete the 'Fighter sweep' advanced waypoint action and add 'Search then Engage in Zone' and it has had much better results.

Ive got an example in this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216024

feefifofum is right. that is how it is supposed to work and for me it always worked well that way. make sure to delete the original "CAP" tasking otherweise it will overwrite the "search/engage in zone"

you can also set up multiple "s/e in zone" tasks to cover more discrete zones.

i can't garantue that this functionality did not get broken with the latest patch, but i haven't seen any bug reports on this issue, so i assume the problem is on your end...
