Great airframe and engines here. Iconic British WWII fighter manufacturer Hawker started WWII combat with the Hurricane and finished with the Tempest V; their pinnacle WWII combatant.

This aircraft would fit in so well as a contemporary with the 109k, 190D, P51D, P47 and the Spitfire Mk XIV.

What a great way to celebrate Hawkers contribution to the air war if this model was enabled through DCS; also a chance for some mutual PR and to improve awareness of the Tempest V, which tends to be forgotten about and could do with some limelight shed upon it.

It was the aircraft the Typhoon was supposed to be, but Hawker could not be managed at the time until it progressed to deliver us the Tempest V!

Happy landings,

Funny the artist behind our Meteor was only talking to me this morning about making a Tempest V ;)

Yes! Give me a Tempest!

I would definitely buy a Tempest V. I am afraid modern jets bore me stupid. It is like driving a bus while playing on an etch-a-sketch :-)

As someone said above, it is the perfect aircraft to go with the FW190, P47 and late Spit & 109 when DCS-Normandy is ready (and before!)

Well, I just checked and April 1st is still a couple of weeks away.

And if Pman said it, it MUST be true :D

I just happen to have the Tempest V pilots notes somewhere around here..... I'd better start reading them.

I must agree with my old wingman here, to not include the Tempest V in the lineup for the WWII map would be a wasted opportunity to represent the RAF from June '44 to the end of the war.

They were superb at intercepting V1's, with their speed and firepower the Tempest squadrons racked up a considerable percentage of the total RAF kills over the flying bombs (638 of a total of 1,846 destroyed by aircraft).

They then went on to dominate the low and mid altitude airspace above the allied armies in Western Europe. Tempests also scored a number of kills against the new German jets, including the Messerschmitt Me 262. Hubert Lange, a Me 262 pilot, said: "the Messerschmitt Me 262's most dangerous opponent was the British Hawker Tempest — extremely fast at low altitudes, highly-manoeuvrable and heavily-armed".

Being in "56 Squadron" I am biased of course, After dealing with the V1 threat 56 Squadron moved into France and was to become equal highest scoring Tempest unit, with 486(NZ) Sqn, totalling 59 confirmed victories.

Where do you start on this list what about the three V bombers (Vulcan, Victor and Valiant). Did I eye the Falklands at the bottom of your development road map?

If you go back to my ATC days then you have the Chipmunk otherwise the following:-

Hunter

Buccaneer

Lighting

Jaguar

F4 Phantom

Sea Harrier

Tornado

If you want to bring in some older FSX pilots like my Dad then something like the Grob, King Air B200 and Tucano would work.

By comparison

By heavens you do make a fellow feel old ;)

My pic was taken around 1970, I think we did have jerseys too but I cannot remember anyone wearing them back then, even out on a cold hillside with a trusty .303 it was still full battledress ... usually the beret was tucked under the butt tho

Best day for me was getting my RAF marksman badge with the .762 SLR :)

Never achieved that, but I do have my father's certificate from the RAF, he was the squadron marksman, after the end of WW2 they tried to get my father to sign up again as he was such a good shot.

I've seen him shoot pistol and rifle but it didn't really interest him even though he was good at it, I shot .22LR in competition and managed to win some I was shooting off a handicap of 98/100

I remember reading something about you wanting to put the chippy in as an introductory aircraft for the BBMF, has that idea been shelved?

The chippy was the first aircraft I ever flew in and also the first aircraft I had control of courtesy of the ATC and RAF at RAF Turnhouse near Edinburgh, for me it certainly would bring back those memories of limitless horizons.

2317 Sqn HARLOW Bush Fair Air Cadets for me. Happy days in battle dress (none of that wooly-pully stuff) with Lee Enfield .303, Chipmunk flying from Cambridge, open cockpit gliding in the Kirby Cadet (got my wings in the Kirby), etc.

Our CO was an ex WWII Bomber Command Pathfinder pilot and we had an ex Sea Vampire pilot on the sqn too.

Happy landings,

P.S. Whoops, we have gone way off topic folks. Pull up a sandbag stuff, LOL.

We have never seriously looked at a chippie, Discussions with the RAF about a BBMF endorsement are ongoing and as with most things with the MoD are taking ages.

Should we do an endorsed series then we would look at the Chippie as they use 2 of them for training. If we do not do an endorsed series a Chipmunk is highly unlikely

I always remember someone telling me that the Chippy could fly around for a couple of hours on the same fuel a Phantom used to get to the end of the runway.

How about a King Air B200 then to fly some top brass around and lending to the roll of multiplayer escort missions. King Air crew have to avoid hostiles flying over the channel and the fast jets (Hawk, Typhoon) could provide close air support even with a scramble scenario when the Russians infringe UK air space.

King Air B200 could be fun and would open you up to a new audience with a bit of careful promotion.

Add some UK maps and you would have a real winner.

Really looking forward to your new stuff over the next few years.
