Can ED please explain what is going on with the spitfire?

Yes, the plan was to have the Spitfire, with these new capabilities and clipped wings, I think they are still tuning and polishing the FM for both packing ordnance under the wings, and for the clipped wings version. Luckily we have some of the best resources around when it comes to real life Spitfire experience, so the FM is getting tuned to meet those high standards.

These changes are in internal testing, and lots of activity on them, but obviously going to be just outside that June window now. I cant see them being much longer though.

Yeah, I have been excited for you guys to get it, was hoping it would have been out already, so as I said, I expect it soon.

Updates generally dont fall on Fridays though, they usually drop on Wednesdays, with a few exceptions here and there.

Any news on the new damage model?

I haven't seen anything announced, but it's definitely 1000x better on the beta. I just did the Normandy dogfight quick mission and got both bandits quite quickly which I'd never done before. My rounds seemed to seize their engines after a bit. Very cool!

I think Philstyle covered it nicely here

Lots of good discussion on the Spit. Having mastered flying her I am now enjoying the possibilities of Mission Editor. Never in my life did I believe I could be leading a flight of four out of a temporary airfield in France 1944 on a seek and destroy mission looking for trucks and 190's I had placed. At this rate, I should understand the possibilities of ME by next year! Thanks for the great work already done and looking forward to the updates.

Will have a new Spitfire finally fixed the mirror?

I certainly hope so! You'd think it'd be as easy as just going to the toolbar in the dev tool and clicking on "flip horizontal" :D

Latest update 19157 today. "Normandy 1944 Update.

Added Spitfire IX clipped wings version.

Added bombs and external fuel tanks for Spitfire."

Loadout dropbox still empty - no tanks, bombs or clipped wings.

Did you try creating your own, new load out? I have seen people flying with the clipped wings in vids with all of the above. I just think there are no set loadouts as, well.. there is like 4 different combinations :)

See attached...

Does anyone have the patience for a quick lesson in this please?

Since you mentioned loadout menu previously, I gather you already know how to get to it (as on NL's first screen) in the mission editor.

Click the "new" button in lower left corner, you will be asked to name the new loadout you're creating. When it's done, you'll see your new loadout line in the menu, though still empty. Right click on the square corresponding to fuselage/wing hardpoint, a menu with bombs/tanks will pop up (like on NL's second screen), choose, left click, done.

OK, when you hit "edit mission" in the quick generator and a full editor screen pops up, click on your airplane symbol, and then, when the big properties menu shows up on the right, click on the second tab from the left, the one marked with a circle with 4 fins and a dot in a middle (resembling a rocket seen from the front) - that will open the loadout menu as seen on NL's screens. Follow the rest of the instructions then.

In the meantime, as a quick stopgap solution - you can use these stores in the familiar re-arm menu too. The principle is the same - right click on the hardpoint square and choose the bomb/tank with left click. The only drawback is you can't save this loadout config here for the future and next time you'll have to do it again.

Thanks Art-J, yes I have clicked on it before (I have clicked everything!) but it did not register. We really need a YT in the contemporary version of a simple mission plan for Normandy with just four Spits out against four Germans with maybe some trucks in a field along the way for target practise. Anything out there now is a bit old.

Spitfire complete???

According to the developer notes that came with the latest Open Beta update (2.5.2.19723.411) the Spitfire is now complete.

However there does seem to be a problem with the first person view as there is glass reflection when looking out from the cockpit even when the canopy is open.

In the DCS World Newsletter - 6 July 2018, in the first paragraph, the last sentence reads, "with these additions, we are pleased to announce that the Spitfire is now feature complete and out of early access", emphasis mine.

It doesn't say that it's bug free.
