SAM Questions

Okay, I did another test with the Russian ship. The scenario was 4 F-16Cs doing anti-ship strike, each with 2 AGM-88C HARMs and 2 AGM-154C JSOWs, and at ~8,500-9,000m MSL and ~500-600km/h IAS against 4 CGN 1144.2 Pyotr Velikiys. Here's what I found out:

1-The Pyotr has the 48N6 S-300F SA-N-6 "Grumble" AND the 5V55 S-300PS SA-10B "Grumble" missiles.

2-The 48N6 can fire at targets that are up to ~90-95km away!!

3-The 48N6 (and maybe also 5V55) is quite capable of engaging ARMs and cruise missiles, though the AGM-154s didn't have time to get all the way to their normal super-low altitude. It did prove effective against AGM-84A Harpoons that were all the way down in another mission, though.

2-Why do certain missiles (AGM-84A Harpoon; AGM-119A Penguin; Kh-31A "Krypton"; 48H6E2/SA-N-6 "Grumble") sound like they're still burning, even after the fire (visible exhaust) has disappeared?

Harpoon has turbojet propulsion and Krypton has ramjet has cruise engine.

Ramjet need a booster to reach optimal speed.

Ship launched Harpoon need a booster too to quickly reach lift speed at the exit of the tube, the turbojet sustain the speed.
