Engine Shutdown after Stall

No Engine failure during Dogfight because of overheating

thanx a lot ... i learned a lot the last 2 days about engine management and overheating and so on..

but one thing isnt clear to me: what can i do to prevent overheating in dogfight.... i have to get close to the enmy, so i have to push MP and RPM forward... otherwise i wont get close to him...

very often when im on his six he pulls up and goes vertical... i am absolutely not able to follow him... i always have to set RPM and MP to a lower setting otherwise my engine will die...

when im on his six and pulls up, as i mentioned, it cant be a thing doing of the wrong maneuvers cause i would have just to stay at his tail, because he more or less flies straight ahead...

2 Questions:

-might there be some kind of maneuver to save energy and speed so i can follow him or get him after he comes down to my flight altitude?

-is there a certain RPM and MP setting that gives me the best deal between speed, maneuverability and (over)heating of the engine, so i can follow him on any altitude (it should be possible, cause we have the same planes ;-))

please help...

(@ED:Maybe some training videos would be helpful about engine management and dogfights for those who cant organize themselves in squadrons, because the lack of time (kids and job, you know ;-) where the would find a "personal trainer")

i found the oil temp gauge should has the senser after the oil tank outlet, not after the radiator.

The pic is from the maual of F-51D.

I must check it... referring the maintenance manual. Maybe I mixed it with the radiator sensor. If so the time to cool will be more. By the way - this tank does not require to change the temperature of all oil mass - just a smaller portion. It makes oil warming faster and allows normal functioning with low oil level.

Looks like overheat. Check temperature gauges.

Anyway, if you are using MIL or WEP be sure you have enough average speed during the fight.

Though the coolant system is pressurised you easily can boil it. There is no effect of steam trail yet (sorry!) but the logical consequences will be fatal.

Visual & audio cues are helpful on these old birds, are there any more that are planned but havent made it in yet?

I can not explain... in the thread about AI fighting I posted ACMI track and a link to the video. Hope it must help. I used all the way 61 3000 power rating. It was my mistake that in pre-stall condition I did not reduce MP or quited the chasing saving IAS. But I was lucky.

If you keep significant speed you can use 61 3000 all the way. But the speed is vital - average speed during vertical and horisontal maneuvers must be 220-230 mph (160 - 300 mph at top and bottom of a loop, for example). It is for 15C temp at SL. If the mission temperature is higher you probably must reduce MP especially when your IAS is low.

I can advice to set the radiators to FULL OPEN MANUALLY while in combat because the sensor can be damaged and the actuator will close the radiator,

Audio cue presents now. The first sound changes you hear - and you have a short time to reduce the temperature.

I was mostly wondering if there were any others that you would like to see in the sim that are not there already for other conditions.

Yes, I'd like to see a vapour trail after coolant system damage. I hope it will be. :)

I hope to see black smoke due to detonation. It is ready but we stopped it because no cues are ready and it would be very low to allow detonation to ruin your engine without any cue. You easily can meet detonation if your aftercooler is damaged. Etc, etc...

Nice! Be nice to see all those...
