[CANT REPRODUCE & NO TRACK FILE] Uh... AA mode HARMS?

I am not sure how I did this, and unfortunately it was on an MP server I am not in control of... so I didn't think I could get a track file.

What I was trying to do was change AAMs on my HOTAS. From memory I didn't have HARMS up, I was just changing from AMRAAMs to AIM9X, or trying to....

I can only guess I got some sort of SP mode routine (HARM OVERRIDE) by accident... ?

In MP DCS does automatically create track files that you can find in your SavedGames/DCS World/Tracks folder.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Yeah so I found out... only problem might be its going to be huge as I play for hours sometimes...

too bad there isn't a track editor (or is there?) I could crop it down a bit.

I will put a track file on in the next 24-48 hrs

I had this issue a couple of times, you want to select your FOX3 and HARM appear instead of AC or AB. When I remake the bit test of SMS page after the rearming, all is okay.

Modules: Nevada, Persian Gulf, Syria, Normandie, FC3, CA, Super Carrier, A-10C, A-10C II, F/A-18C, F-16 C, F-14 B, SA342, and WWII stuff.

Devices: Hotas Warthog, Cougar MFDs, Saitek rudder pedals, Track IR

Ah, yes. I have had this about 2 times in multiplayer. If i remember correctly I had 4 HARMS and

1. I fired 2 in TOO mode, then

2. Sensor select(?) 120s

In the other occasion I believe I:

1. I fired 1

2. Locked onto an enemy A2A radar contact

I hope my limited recollection helps

I had it happen again, this time mavericks. I had Mavs on left MFD, using the TDC, accidentally pressed sidewinder AA override mode ("Select Sidewinder" in the controls...

And it did as pictured.

It also makes the maverick go weird if it is uncaged at the time, with the sensor just tracking all over the place for no reason, and you cannot recage it.... but it can be made to slave to WPDSG

So... I have a track file for this... but its over 2 hours long. Is that going to be ok?

Thanks, I will try again to reproduce, but if you see it in a short track, please provide. So far I haven't had any luck recreating.

Something similar happened to me as well last night, although I don't know how. I was in AA mode and after I launched my two Sidewinders, I got HARM in the middle of the JHMCS and the HUD, with big letters. Looks like how I expect the pull-back mode to look in the future, when it puts you in HARM mode automatically in the case of a SAM threat.

Thing is, I never had a HARM loaded in the first place. I only had an AA loadout to begin with, 2 AIM-9X, 10 AIM-120C.

Here is a short track with the maverick issue I was talking about, which has very similar conditions and to me seems related - indeed this is exactly what had happened, when I got the 2nd picture with the mavericks in AAM. You may want to make a separate bug for it. It seems very repeatable.

http://voyager.hi-powered.net/files/dcs/maverickissue.trk

If I am uncaged, using the TDC depress, plus axis commands to slew the crosshairs, and hit 'sidewinder select' the maverick seeker head seems to just move randomly off axis and cannot be recovered. Pressing 'cage/uncage' seems to pause it momentarily.

The work-around fix seems to be around using WPDSG... it gets the seeker on the waypoint. I can then recage and it seems to be fine. You should be able to see it in the track.

This only happens because I happen to have those AAM switches next to the TDC controller I use on my X56 throttles (as the stick has a ministick where that selector would be), so I get that its not likely to happen to many people, as often as it does, to me.

As someone mentioned TOO, it makes me wonder if this is related as both require the use of an uncage function. That might be a red herring however.

  • 2 weeks later...

I experienced this again yesterday, air start mission, only A2A loadout (-9X and -120C). I was in NAV mode and I pressed Weapon Select Right to enter AA mode and select the AIM-120C. I got all of the expected symbology, but HARM was additionally displayed in the middle of the JHMCS.

Track or mission file?

I'll save and upload the track next time it happens. It's fairly inconsistent and infrequent, at least for me.

  • 1 month later...

It just gets weirder...

@Nineline - I do have a track for this but its 183meg... is that too big? Problem is most times this happens I have been flying for quite some time so the track files are huge.

What's interesting about this particular incident is that my friend also had the same loadouts, and it happened to him at the same time.

Huzzah!

I think I have worked it out. After playing back through my mind the circumstances of the issue last night with the zunis, I was able to reproduce the problem reliably.

I haven't done exhaustive testing to work out the exact combination, but it would seem that:

If you have AIM-120C dual launchers (I haven't tested with single, as I don't normally use them) on the wing stations, fire 1 of them off

AND

You land, and rearm with AG weapons on those stations

AND

you no longer have AIM120Cs

And then select the AIM-120C from the hotas, you will get the AG weapon on the hud in AA mode.

Here is the track file.

http://voyager.hi-powered.net/files/dcs/AAmodeissue.trk

I have confirmed using the same methodology to also reproduce the HARM symbology as well.

http://voyager.hi-powered.net/files/dcs/AAmodeissue2.trk

I believe what is happening is when you select the AAM it is remembering the old wing station as the next station to fire, rather than the actual ones where the missile is loaded.

I also got it completely randomly a couple of times, without rearming
