M2000C instant alignment with "auxiliary INS" setting!

on Multiplayer servers which enforce alignment, you can switch the INS-mode knob to "NAV", and the switch far to the right to forward position, then for some reason it will say "HORIZON SECOURS" in HUD and clutter HUD a bit (not sure if it can be cleaned?) but you instantly have I think magnetic heading (5° off of true heading I think) :pilotfly:

The selector on the right is the backup HSI/ADI switch. it will then display "Horizons secours" on HUD. Has no bearing on alignment and is only backup if primary fails.

As far as I know selecting (no alignment or whatever the option is) in your special options menu for M2K, it will override server settings. Whether a bug or not, not sure. I never have to align the INS in M2K on any MP server unless I deselect the option.

that's not what I was saying. I said that selector for backup HSI/ADI has no bearing on alignment of the M2K."No bearing on alignment" meaning has not relevance, or impact on alignment. You would not use that selector to align in any circumstances. its used when in flight for emergencies only.

That's the backup AHRS system. It might do 3-axis attitude well enough but the 3-degree position/velocity keeping isn't a part of that.

If you set that switch forced on and still get good position keeping with the INS then something is fishy. Maybe, maaaybe the position keeping can try to use true airspeed and attitude to keep the position but the drift is going to be awful compared to an inertial system.

Thanks for super thorough explanation! Though, that also must be an inertial system... you say "compared to an inertial system" as if this auxiliary one isn't an inertial one...

By inertial I mean an integrator of linear accelerations. Attitude systems are gyroscopic so there's no attempt to track translational position.

Does Mirage 2000 have a complete secondary 6-axis INS to backup the primary INS? Almost certainly not. If it does backup position keeping at all it will try to derive velocities from air data and attitude.
