P51 or Spiti

Recommended Posts

My Mk IX every time.......although I love them both, the Pony has the added advantage of being able to ground pound, with it's rockets and bombs, but in a straight dogfight the Spit has my vote.

As so often with such questions: It depends.

The Spitfire has the advantage in punching power and agility. Nothing turns as well as she does. That makes her an excellent gunplatform that can reach firing solution pretty quickly. It's major shortcoming is speed. It's the slowest fighter of them all, meaning that no matter how good you can get a solution, out of gun-range stays out of gun-range. That also shows it's second shortcoming: You don't decide whether the fight happens or not. Once they know you're there, they can get to you. So if you're in a fight, you stay in that fight usually. Silver lining: The Spit can put up quite an effective defensive game.

The P51 has one advantage: Speed. The .50 cals are pretty lackluster currently and their dispersion pattern doesn't help things. But it can run fast. It's turning is shite though, only better than the 190. In the P51, you have to go fast (insert insipid Sonic the Hedgehog quote here) and keep it fast. Everything else on the block including the continental plate below you accelerates faster than the P51. That's what gets most inexperienced P51 fliers killed (me included because I'm too much of a spitty jock:D). They give up too much speed while pining for a shooting solution and another opponent maneuvers on them.

The real beauty is P51 and Spit combined. If the hun want to get on a Spit, they have to maneuver to a degree which slows them. That's when a fast P51 can run them down and nail them. The P51 that has Spits nearby can engage in some turnfighting, risking its life to get the enemy into the Spits preferred waters. The 109 and the 190 can do this as well but they're both more at risk.

I have both. I almost always choose the Spit over the P51 when flying Allies. Main reason? Much more lethal in a quick and dirty dogfight, and the better defensive fighter. Fighting in the P51 is hard. You need altitude and speed, and the eyes of a hawk to spot contacts flying lower than you are. Not to mention the rather mediocre .50 cals.

Once the new damage model comes, and we get some serious escort missions Ill probably give some more love to the P51.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Which is the best aircraft P51 or Spiti?

I have P51 but I think what spiti is best what P51 who fighter.

Thank.

different playstyles.

Hard to say.

For a average players, Id say spit. Its a excellent dogfighter . And since majority only fly at low altiudes and Like to constatly Turn in Burn Spit seems like better aircraft.

P51 Performs better at higher altitudes, and has better E retention, Top speed, and Airframe is more durable.

Go into 700 KM/H dive, and try to pull up. Youl see what i mean about P51 Airframe Durability ( spits Snap easier in high speed dives), and Control surfaces being more reactive.

Build:

Spit will take more practice to get landings right, and to steer on the ground. You'll not have the speed you like to catch a Kraut diving away (and away and away to rise and come back at you)

But, if you wind up low with no friends, the Spit gives you a better chance.
