JDAM progress

Borrowed from their FB page, since they can't really be bothered.

 

AV-8B NA news update:

Now it is possible to set targets for the JDAMs with the CAS page.

Targets are selected on the F10 map and loaded into the ATHS system.

Remember the correct use of JDAMs require careful planning BEFORE starting the flight.

The letter T indicates that the target is loaded into a targetpoint. T43 = Targetpoints 4 and 3.

With Facebook getting a lot of "legal attention" lately, for "lost" personal information, sharing stuff they aren't supposed to, "forgetting" to inform people about leaks of privacy etc. even more people don't appreciate, being forced to join Facebook to not miss out on updates.

I usually rarely go through the hassle to look at anything else than this forum as I have set all relevant threads to notify me.

I won't say this forum should be the only place to post updates, but it should offer the same information available on Facebook and act as a source for all things DCS from Razbam. :)

Funny enough- even on their own website, you have to specifically go into the harrier section and scroll to the bottom to see a copy of the Facebook post. Why not have updates on their main page which is quite out of date an usually just shows old DCS newsletters. I like hearing about this stuff but it seems the DCS forums are the last place to find updates from them.

Looks great, glad we're getting JDAM's, but the fact that Harlikwin had to post this for it to be acknowledged on here is kind of unsettling.

Sounds like Razbam needs a community manager, handling things like updates and making sure they get posted to all the right places is their job description.

It's the Automatic Target Handoff System (ATHS), an electronic 9-line that's swapped between lead and FAC (with copies to wingmen if wanted).

 

It's editable by both until an agreed "contract" is made, at which point the FAC authorises it and lead or one of the flight (lead may not be the aircraft dropping ordnance) can copy the "authorised" 9-line message to a target point.

 

Up to 18 CAS messages can be copied/saved and used as a template for the next CAS "contract" with the same or another FAC.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I would have hopped into my Harrier not knowing this feature has been added. Not a Facebook fan as much.

I haven't read anything about when they will be implemented. Does anyone know?

I think in a video, I saw that some changes were made in the FA-18 for JDAM's, namely, after the map got tenths and hundredths added to the minutes display, the same was done for waypoints.

 

IIRC you enter the waypoint exactly as before, only after entering degrees, hours, minutes, and pressing [ENT] you then input tenths and hundredths -- 2 digits -- and press [ENT] again.

 

Anyone seen this to be working in the Harrier?

Actually I'm not even convinced JDAM's are working exactly right in the hornet either at least with regards to alignment, and then loosing alignment when you change weapons. And really both planes would actually benefit from having a working INS simulation for the JDAM's to actually pull data from in the first place. But it seems like ED is going about that backasswards.... And I'm assuming RAZBAM is waiting on them to do it so they can just mostly copy it since I think its the same nav system in both.
