No run.exe file

Not sure this counts as a game crash as I can't even get it started - for some reason the run.exe file has vanished.

I have done the update cleanup and update repair processes, but still no run.exe file.

Any help gratefully received

Check your anti-virus is not not tagging the exe as virus. If so you may have to add the exe or the whole folder to your exclusion list.

Try turn off your anti-virus when update and later put the exe file in exclusion

All I have is windows defender, and it was fine this morning.

I shut down the PC so I could move the monitor and when I powered up again it was gone. Should I disable Defender? It has worked fine with it for the past two years

No need, just add the dcs folders to the exclusion list of your AV, for example on mine I have it like this:

Figured since there was nothing to lose I ran the two again (obviously after adding those to the exclusions) - still no run.exe file

Weird,

Normally after running repair, the exe file would be place back in your eagle dynamic/dcs world/bin folder.

Did you check if dcs.exe file was put back in there?

You would need to create a new shortcut of the exe file to your desktop.

What version of dcs are you using? I have use the openbeta

Have you tried running the dcs.exe or dcs_updater.exe in your bin folder after repair?

Either of those two usually will run dcs world but dcs_updater.exe would check for update first and then load dcs world.

You could open a technical support ticket on ED website for a better solution.

there is no run.exe in my BIN folder. by default there is no such thing as run.exe in a standard win 10 installation. there are however runas.exe, runonce.exe, runexehelper.exe, rundll32.exe. if run.exe is indeed referenced in an error you are seeing, it could be an unwanted program (malware).

^ Yes. I recall there was such a file in the old days. It's not there anymore (nor is it needed) when you install DCS nowadays from scratch, so it might have been removed by updater.
