Hawkeye60
My wife was going through papers she saved from her Mom. She came upon this letter. She had saved it, but did not take the time to read it back then. She read it today and shared it with me. I asked, and received, her permission to share it here. I will let the letter speak for itself............ ------------------------------------------------------------------- "To J. A. F. Personal July 23, 1946 In the month of December, I chanced to meet A Marine who was a few inches above six feet His eyes were green, his hair was brown He was tan from the top of his head to the ground. He wasn't handsome,I would not go to that extent But he was a good looking sort of a gent He had two dimples, one in each cheek And eyes that would twinkle, whenever he did speak. He thought he was rugged and could defeat Any guy who would not move when he walked down the street It was not that he wanted to start a fight, Oh no, He would never think of even rendering a blow. He fell in love with a girl one day And he asked her to marry him right away She asked him to wait a long time, but he would not agree The why of it all even now she can't see. Now they are both waiting for that certain day When they will be married and he takes her to their home to stay Worries they both had in the past must go And each others plans for the future they should know Since this is being written in the factory And I have plenty of work waiting for me I will now say so long for to work I must go Hoping that you like our poem My Guy Named Joe. I preparest my aircraft to receive the Iron that will be delivered in the presence of my enemies. Thy ALCM and JDAM they comfort me. Power was given unto the aircrew to make peace upon the world by way of the sword. And when the call went out, Behold the "Sword of Stealth". And his name was Death. And Hell followed him. For the day of wrath has come and no mercy shall be given."
