ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 29, 2019 ED Team Share Posted October 29, 2019 Hi all Currently I have a GTX 1080, very happy with it but I want to go to a card with more than 8GB Vram. What are the best options without spending RTX 2080 TI money? Would a 1080 TI be the best option? thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? BitMaster
Likely yes. Maybe a used one is obtainable for not much more than you could sell your 1080 for. Given your CPU, a 2080ti would not run at full bore anyways, likely the 1080ti will be all you can feed. In other words, the 1080ti makes the most sense. Yes I thought so, I think I will look into one. Sadly wont be able to sell the 1080, old cards always get down cycled to my sons pc :) Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Mustang
I went to an RTX 2080 8gb (ASUS Dual OC) with the same CPU as you and I get exceptional performance in DCS, and the RTX features are extra useful with OBS as I stream on Twitch. It wouldn't make much sense staying with the 1080 range, just my opinion. P.S these RTX cards are stellar overclockers, got mine at GPU 2100mhz and 8000mhz on the GDDR6 RAM (16000mhz effective)

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 29, 2019 Author ED Team Share Posted October 29, 2019 Thanks Mustang, 2080 is looking nice, I do agree Going to wait for the sales / black Friday and so on, and hopefully pick up a bargain. NVIDIA and the price point for the 2080ti for the performance gain it seems like wasted money so wanted to explore other options. If they lowered the price I would go straight for 2080ti. Eaglewings
I am equally eyeing the 2070super or 2080 super for the black friday sales. 2080ti price not justified for me now but it has lot of future proof gains. Read Amd might be launching a higher-end gpu soon. This potentially could challenge nvidia to competitively price that segment of the market. I hope not to regret pushing the button too soon with the rumoured Amd high-end gpu and the nvidia ampere gpu. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 3, 2019 Author ED Team Share Posted December 3, 2019 Couldn't resist the sales. MSI RTX 2080Ti Ventus GP I convinced my wife my son could have my 1080 as he wanted an upgrade and I could buy a card in the sale :) Installed today, working well so far. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Rossterman
I went from overclocked 980ti hydrocopper to 2080ti. As you’d imagine it was a significant improvement- but not double the speed or such. In your case I’d wait for nvidia’s 3 series gpu launch next January and decide then. As said, the cpu will eventually need an upgrade but playing in vr on my rig, the gpu runs at 100% compared to 70% for the cpu. GwarBush
With AMD having dropped the idea of Crossfire due to lack of sales, dual GPU use is now up to the game developer on DX12. Do you guys know if DCS currently supports multi GPU?
BitMaster
Currently DCS uses DX11. Vulkan is planned and in development. Vulkan also supports mGPU. If it will arrive in DCS, who knows. My hopes are there too as mGPU allows for asymmetric GPU's, like a 1080ti and a 2080ti. If it makes sense, we will hopefully be able to find out in the hopefully not too far future.
