Eldur
I just wonder how it's oriented in the real thing. Wags mentioned he selects the Sidewinders with Weapons Select Down. Neiter the DCS manual (nothing except for that it is the thumb hat) nor the settings (it's just like "Weapons Select: Sidewinder") though tell me which direction does what so I put my own mapping to it which I'll probably even just leave like that. But I'd like to know the real thing nevertheless.
David OC
I think the Warthog has a push down Z axis on the thumb button. shagrat
The original selects forward - AIM7 Sparrow, right - AIM120 AMRAAM, press down - AIM9 Sidewinder and aft - gun, as far as I could find info. Eldur
Thanks for the answers... so I probably got it close enough on my ordinary hat (FFB2) in conjuction with RAlt... FWD - Sparrow RGT - AMRAAM LFT - Sidewinder BCK - Gun BTW I mixed up down and back because I think up/down instead of forward/back in case of hat switches usually, so I had the imagination that Wags has the Winders set on back, but it's press aka down. But then he's one of the very few at the moment to have the Hornet Grip which probably has it mapped correctly by default once it's availabe for all

Juuba
I read somewhere, that the Superhornet made away with the push-button configuration on the hat, and it's mapped as e.g Eldur said: "Sidewinder left". CH user here too, I mapped them as mentioned also. Sometimes I Amaze even Myself!
QuiGon
A few days ago I've seen the following interview where a real life Hornet pilot spoke about the weapon select switch. Should be around the 12 minute mark, but I can't verify as I don't have sound atm. IIRC he said push down for Sidewinder and that left is not used at all. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
