Default pylons can be removed...

I don't know when it was implemented but last night I was finally able to remove the wing pylons...nice bump in speed

Pylons have been removable since the Hornet's first or second update back in Spring 2018.

...and seems there is no drag modeled for them, so no "speed bump" … because you're already going as you have no pylons at all !

I know it (modelling for drag with/without) was on the 'to do' list pretty much from the day removing them was enabled as an option. No idea if it was ever done though.

Drag is not currently modeled for pylons, gear cover damage, or removed canopy.

You can go faster by breaking surfaces off your plane, though. Remove both wingtips and achieve 800kts on the deck.

Main reason for implementing this option was that the pylons looked a little out of place on the Blue Angels skin.

In F-16 when you remove pylons you decrease drag and bump your speed.
In F/A-18 it is not yet modeled. But it's EA so no problem.

If I'm not completely mistaken, it's the other way round. Drag of them is still there if you remove them.
