rrohde
First, thanks ED for adding this nice little escort mission to the Syria map in today's patch (Aug 26, 2020). Taking off from Bassel Al-Assad International Airport - aka the Russian Khmeimim airbase - and escorting four Su-25s to attack insurgent camps in Aleppo is exactly the kind of recent historical mission I expect to see more of for the Syria map. That said, I cannot wait for more missions and campaigns for both Russia and NATO to be created for Syria. However, and this is now painfully clear to me - the lack of flyable, modern full fidelity Russian fighters and attack aircraft modules is now more obvious than ever; it seems as if the Syria map screams for those kind of DCS modules to happen. For now, the Ka-50 (my stand-in for any real-life mimic Ka-52 missions we might see), and the upcoming Mi-24 Hind fit the low level bill nicely, but man, I never felt the urge to hop into an updated, clickable, full ASM'ed out 25, 29 or 27 cockpit more than now. ... and this is all because of the awesome Syria map. Thanks. Top Jockey
Very interesting insight. Although I dream about Europe Cold War maps, I've thought about buying the Syria map several times already. Well said, starting from 79 forward to current events, the new map, expanded existing ones, or new theaters of this region would be exemplary for missions and historical based scenarios for the reasons you mention.:thumbup: Pointy end hurt! Max1mus
Yeah, Syria is really not attractive for red pilots at all. As you mentioned, apart from the Ka-50 (and maybe Su-25T, although it lacks the upgraded L-150 RWR) everything else is just way too old to recreate any Russian operations. And even from the Israeli/NATO side it is not much better, given how all the opposing red AI fighters/weapons and SAMs are at best from the late 80s, if lucky early 90s. While the map itself is pretty, definitely not worth the money until these issues are adressed.
Doc3908
Very interesting insight. Although I dream about Europe Cold War maps, I've thought about buying the Syria map several times already. I totally agree: I'd love to see some European Cold War Maps - Central Europe, the Balkans... Personally, I have no interest in Syria. And, yes, I would love to see at least one full-fidelity Russian jet.
