I'm still not sure why the mirrors seem to be angled to show just the pilot and nothing much else in the default view. Maybe navy pilots liked to do their lipstick on long flights?

I'm pretty sure they did..:music_whistling:

Although to be fair, in the AF we did have a certain pilot who used to duck away to the loo before final approach to do his hair, especially if any civilians or press were anticipated to be on the tarmac for the walk down the ladder.:megalol:

I think mirrors angle should be reviewed too. It could be really usefull and currently it just feels like we're at the barber shop. :music_whistling:

 

 

To see something like this I think would be better. :)

I think it is important to understand two things with the Tomcat, and all of our SMEs will confirm that:

 

The head position of the pilot is basically bumbing against the canopy, means also mirrors, we even made that less a factor than irl for playablity's sake.

 

The mirrors are not meant to spot bandits or to observe the terrain behind you. The side mirrors were often used to check wing surfaces, wing position, flaps position, maneuver flaps position and DLC. The top mirror indeed served as a second means of backup communication between pilot and RIO. This part is of course mute in DCS, as we have no hand signals.

 

Could they be used in a bfm? sure. Have they been used? Probably, who knows. Where they meant for that though? Not really.

I noticed that you can't see the eject arm switch change position when you toggle it, in the mirror, but you can see it animate if you turn around and look at it

We do have virtual hands in DCS :)

It's just that they are not transmitted over the network.

Do the network-transmitted hands is something that can be implemented? I would think yes, maybe Heatblur could check with ED?
