Upgrading from GTX970

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm thinking to upgrade my GTX970 to Zotac GTX1070 TI mini.

My computer case can fit 27 cm length graphics card.

What do you think about this choice ?

Thanks. Sorry I was not clear.

I know that this card fit in my pc case. My question is about performances.

I went from 980 to 1080ti and quasi doubled my performance. You can then either rise LOD or Resolution or enjoy more fps, or a mix of that to absorb the power ;)

Hi all,

What do you think about this choice ?

I have a Zotac GTX 1070 Mini (not the Ti version, regular 1070) and it's actually very good! It was the cheapest 1070 I could find when I upgraded from a GTX 760 2GB :)

The cooler is actually very good, but I use a custom fan profile in MSI Afterburner. With my card overclocked about as high as I can get it to go, I rarely see temps approaching 65C.

Runs mostly high settings in DCS on my 2560 x 1440 display. I clamp my framerate to 50 FPS, and it rarely dips below that. I use 2x MSAA and no other antialiasing.

If you get a good price on it, go for it!

Thanks guy

I can have a Zotac GTX 1070 ti mini for 439.90 € (469.90 - 30 of discount on amazon).

I don't know if I have to wait for black Friday...

What is the cost difference to a 2080 where you guys are?? The 2080 is about the same performance as a 1080Ti and a tad more future proof, shame about the 8GB VRAM. Albeit "maybe" with some early teething issues. For me I'd wait let the dust and price settle. The price might even drop on 2080Ti 's.

I went from a 980Ti to a 1080Ti, and roughly a 980Ti is about equal to a 1070(Ti) depending,.. I think it's best to get a decent GPU upgrade that will likely last longer.

YMMV,. :D

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

Interesting question...

Actually I'm in the same boat.

I was planning on upgrading my RAM from 16 to 32GB, but have come to doubt if it wouldn't be better to upgrade my 970 to a 1070ti...

Do the GPU upgrade first, 100%. You will see a big jump in performance. I went from a 970 to a 1070 for 1440p gaming and it was a big difference. No brainer that one.

For VR , i think the 1080 would prove superior . Something about memory lanes i can't recall the specifics of . As to price difference -only you can judge that ! I went for the 1070 because i found a new one for half the price of a 1080 .

the 1070 works surprisingly well for VR.

it might actually be the best value option around when comparing price/performance

I'm counting on it !

I had the 1070 before going to the 1080ti

It could handle VR quite well, I upgraded so I could play larger missions. The 1080ti just gave me a bit more wiggle room with settings / mission size.

Keep the mission to a reasonable amount and you'll have no problems. Also, that was many updates back, when I had the 1070 so things change, good and bad.;)

Might depend on the headset. Samsung Odyssey I had to run 1.0 PD and low textures on my 980Ti to get 45fps, which is comparable to the 1070 in performance. Rift at native resolution probably a little less demanding.
