Just noticed this on the news, what a pleasant surprise! I was shocked to see DCS on primetime news for a moment actually!

They have setup a physical Mig-21 cockpit simulator set with VR in a flight museum in my country, absolutely will go check it out ASAP, since I don't have the budget for VR or any better stick right now, this is absolutely awesome!

PRESS RELEASE: http://parkvojaskezgodovine.si/slovesnost-ob-zagonu-simulatorja-letenja-z-letalom-mig-21/ (non-english, http://translate.google.com) Contact/Location info bottom of the page.

Quick summary: The simulator is a combination of DCS with Mig-21Bis module, VR headset, with a number of original parts they got from Ebay like a real Mig-21 seat (Poland) and control stick (Ukraine), pedals, the speed control and some instruments including landing gear (ex-Yugoslavia), some parts are from Czech Republick and Romania, and the thing was put together with technical help from the pilots/engineers, and two other companies ran by younger folks probably responsible for VR setup, the Slovenian Air Traffic Control Agency has also contributed financially to the project.

I went looking deeper into it and found out there's quite enthusiasm around here that I had no idea about, ofcourse there is a whole war planes museum which I didn't knew about and the fact that our country actually has pilots that have flown Mig-21 for over 20 years.

However the news reportage makes it sound as if the whole simulator was made by the local companies and organizations (Aeronavt and Aereform), since there is no mention of Eagle Dynamics or DCS or any names/logos of the 3rd Party, but I think what the media articles cite were the companies which where only behind the setup of the hardware part of the hardware set, the chair and flight stick and the general setup, not the actual software I would assume?

For a second I almost thought that the companies were the ones behind this Mig-21Bis module?

So Magnitude 3 LLC has nothing to do with this, no ?

EDIT: This kinda seems it should be interesting to other people around here, not specific to the Mig21 Module Software ... what about moving this thread to Military and Aviation maybe.

There is no rocket science behind repainted scrapped fishbed seat, stick and pedals with couple of joystick sensors + cv1 rift set.

IMHO license violation (if any) needs to be addressed by Eagle Dynamics.

Our Air force uses it also for promo but i doubt that it violates any rights...thats me in the attacment in the KM-1

Also, it was said to be a 1-year deal, unless they negotiate more, and then it'll be moved, or something else will happen, they only said there may be future projects with this stuff but did not want to say what exactly.

I did not want to speculate because I honestly have no idea how difficult the interfacing was, I could have more idea if I visit the place and find out more details, or if I go into brainstorm mode heh, but I'm kinda busy with some other stuff right now.

Yes the media articles make it sound extremely hyped up, as if they developed the whole 3D software too, but that's the mainstream media, normal for them, also now that I think about it, there was a statement talking about that they built an "autopilot which let's people who are too scared to control the aircraft only watch it as a movie". I guess that was probably also said for the media, most definitely didn't built THE autopilot, but probably a replaying of a recorded track.

Visitor Instructions: http://parkvojaskezgodovine.si/dozivite-izkusnjo-letenja-z-letalom-mig-21/ (translator required)

Quick translation: 10 euro per person for 15 minutes, prior reservation recommended to not wait long in line.

If any foreigner seriously wants to go there when transiting, here's some info on places to stay the night if necessary http://parkvojaskezgodovine.si/tic-pivka/nastanitev/

Hopefully the credit/trademark thing can be solved without removal of the simulator from public too quick, I'd still like to visit it in the coming weeks. I don't have a Mig-21bis module myself but now that I realized how huge part of history it is around this part of the world I may actually buy it sooner rather than later.

Maybe the "damage" if any could be fixed by a re-announcement with proper logos and even requesting the local media that originally reported about it to issue an updated report, or something.
