2080 vs 5700XT

Recommended Posts

Could someone in the know explain which of these things listed below would give me a better performance in DCS VR,

AVG User Bench 2080 / 5700XT

PARALEX: 490 fps / 751 fps +53%

MRender: 361 fps +56% / 231 fps

Gravity: 406 fps +6% / 383 fps

Splatting: 235 fps / 349 fps +49%

Peak OC Bench

PARALEX: 579 fps / 824 fps +42%

MRender: 417 fps +70% / 245 fps

Gravity: 467 fps +12% / 416 fps

Splatting: 265 fps / 372 fps +40%

I got these off a user Benchmark site, could be true, could be false, but I am hoping the 5700XT is going to be VR friendly, as the consensus I get from the web is that Nvidia far outclass AMD for VR.

Edit, Doesn't seem to want to post in order like I wrote it

Those are test runs, not really telling about games performance.

And now is not time to buy 2080, but instead 2070 Super that performs like 2080.

The current RX 5700 XT is likely going to get little better when third party cards comes out.

Thanks Fri13, it is the 5700XT I am interested in, early next month, as you say when the AIB ones come out, I wasn't interested in the 2080, its just it was the closest to the 5700XT on that benchmark site, the 2070 super was the card I wanted but I point blank refuse to give Nvidia any of my hard earned this time around.

Every review I've watched/read puts the 2070 Super ahead of the XT. But not by much in most cases. Think the only way you'd really notice is if you sat and watched benchmarks all day and not played the game. Of course all the reviews mentioned the cooling problems and some mentioned drivers being a bit of an issue right now. But it's early so you would think/hope they get all that situated in a month. $400 is a good price for what you can get. Assume though a 3rd party card mark up.

That's all I have seemed to have been doing for the last 5 months mxpower76, looking at reviews and benchmarks :(, I can play DCS VR with my 970, @ a steady 45 fps on low and medium with 2xAA, but I want to know how much better it will be with a better card, I bought the rift and the only 2 games I play are DCS and ACC, and neither are the best with a 970. I have seen reviews and read on forums that the 5700XT noise and heat are not as bad as some reviewers make out. I can see the AIB 5700XT being around £450, so then I might as well get the 2070 super. Only another month to wait.

Lol that's pretty much my same experience with the Rift in DCS. We pretty much have almost the same setup. I have a 3770 non K and a 1060 6gb. Mostly steady 45fps but the graphics are on low/medium. It doesn't look that great TBH and I can't really go near down town Dubai in most cases. Can't have anything else flying near by either. I'm considering either the 2070S or the XT. And for whatever reason I didn't get the K version so it's about time to upgrade the 3770. That thing has been a rock for all these years but since I already have a new unused MSI B450 laying around I'll go AMD.

Just watched a you tube where there is a new mod for the 5700XT which makes it as fast as a Radeon VII.

From what I've been reading /seeing in gaming as opposed to synthetic benchmarks , it's pretty well there already !

I have all ways had Intel CPU and MOBO and apart from the HD4870, all ways Nvidia cards, but this time it looks like I am going AMD all the way, maybe wait for the Black Friday sales for either a 3700X or 3800X and MOBO, but I have a £50 Amazon voucher so will wait until they get stock of the 5700XT as there is a 1 to 2 month lead time at the minute :(

Interesting card. I'm usually an Nvidia guy, but I'm building a new PC while planning to keep my old rig in running order, other than stealing the 2080TI out of it for the new rig.

If the 5700xt is as good as it is claimed to be, this might be the answer I am looking for to get my old rig back into full working order for not a lot of cash in Nvidia terms.

My 2080TI blew up twice and I do not want to be left without a decent rig for months ever again.

Has anyone tried the 5700XT in VR yet, I cant find any benchmarks apart from a French site, it shows graphs that says in the VRMark Cyan room the 5700xt is slightly slower than a 2070S and in the VRMark Blue room the 5700XT is slower than a 2060S. No clue what the cyan and blue rooms are.

Only thing makes me nervous is the TMU count. Vegas aren't bad in DCS, about equal to a 1080. XT could be a step in the wrong direction (for DCS, dunno about everything else). Believe it when I see it basically.

Sorry to necro the threat, but I thought it might be worth commenting on for any who have the question.

So the 5700XT is an interesting beast. For flat panel gaming it performs really well. However I found VR to be not so great. Initially the extra VRAM was a help over the 2060 (it clearly uses more than 6gb of VRAM in VR) I was using, but there were a lot of ASW induced artefacts (particularly at low level), even effecting things like terrian which is not fun. In the end I took the 1080 out of my home theatre PC and put it in, and the VR experience on this was much smoother without the same artefacts, so given my primary games currently are DCS and Il-2 both in VR the 1080 will stay in and I guess the 5700XT is destined for the home theatre!

So plus ca change: AMD have a potentially good card but drivers screw it up and especially in this niche title while their code crew target squeezing more fps out of Far Cry and Witcher.

And then I'm eyeing an HP Reverb, so 4k res and VR impact. Should save for a 2080.

do not forget, while you compare, you get roughly TWO 5700XT for ONE 2080.

I'd buy the 5700XT, heck, I wouldnt have the cash atm to buy the 2080 anyway, so the 5700XT looks very fair priced. And yes, I dont use my Rift, I only fly 1440p for now.

(Sigh) Would love to encourage some competition in the GPU space , but multiple reports regarding 5700xt and VR are gonna keep me a greenie for awhile :(

RX5700XT = 380 EUR

RTX2080=620 EUR

RTX2080S, yes, that's in 750 area, but I wouldn't compare those.

From what I hear the 5700 comes closer to 2070 than a 2080, and if you want 2080 power the 2070Super matches that rather - and the 2070Super goes at around 500.

Like I said, keep in mind drivers and DCS being a niche product in comparison to titles that sell by the hundred thousands. AMD won't outdo themselves tweaking the last bit out of DCS.

It was quite another deal if the DCS enigne supported SLI or CF or better both, then 2 RX5700 would be something I's consider. Or a VR abstraction layer where you'd have one GPU per eye.

Just not sure yet. Too many open questions, too few DCS benchmarks.

There is not one 2080 below 695€ from the link I posted but you may come from another country with different prices.

Do you only buy from mindfactory.de? If not, check some price comparison sites, you could save some money: https://geizhals.at/?cat=gra16_512&xf=9810_9+8920+-+RTX+2080

the difference remains about the same, you can save some bucks on either one.

I prefer to buy where I can click "Gold Support" for 5€ and return w/o any questions and get superior support if I call. Needed that a few times and for me, that's worth some extra cash. them or caseking

Again, sure, you get both cheaper but the % difference remains, almost 2 XT's for 1 2080
