L-39 combat employment

Hi,

In the last mission of the Kursant campaign, there is a "real" engagement with an enemy vehicle column with AAA and IFVs. As you are equipped with two FAB100 and two rocket launchers, you have to destroy the column. The issue is all those manoeuvers that have been taught in the previous training missions require you to first overfly the enemy position at 500-600m and then engage in maneuvers that will allow you to engage the enemy according to a fixed set of parameters (essentially dive angle, speed and altitude).

The enemy overfly part at a relatively low altitude is when one is very vulnerable. Yet it has to be undertaken beforehand in order to find a satisfactory firing solution. I find this tactically difficult to justify. So the question is: why are these maneuvers taught to aspiring pilots?

Wishlist: Tornado ADV/IDS, Blackburn Buccaneer, Super Mystère B2, Saab J 35 Draken,
