Poor FPS in VR mode on Channel map

YoYo

Recommended Posts

In VR mode:

Normandy = stable 45 (reprojection ON), even near to ground (over trees) in fast flight.

Channel = DCS has problem to recive this stable 45 fps, near ground I notice 30-33 fps with visible stutter.

According me Channel map needs more optimalization still or less object.

It will be nice to see here Normandy performance.

ditto, its border line unplayable at the moment. the stutter is especially pronounced over built up areas and the white cliffs of dover ...

Yeah I cant fly in VR with this map unfortunately, low FPS and heavy stuttering. Normandy running really smooth as is all other maps.

Completely unplayable in VR at the moment. Re projection on. All maps in Reverb Pro are at 45. (SC on deck around 38 fps)

Channel Map on ground between 26 and 33. In air between 33 and 41. Stutters are absolutely awful with terrible prop ghosting.

My specs are i9-9900K @ 5GHz, 32 Gb DDR4 RAM, Ge Force GTX 1080 Ti, 1 Tb SSD, running an HP Reverb Pro on Reprojection with DCS settings which always gives me a comfortable 45 fps.

Same. Looks like the issue is coming off the Frame Timing, which is through the roof at low level.

Same. Bad FPS in channelmap in VR. I hoped for a FPS boost seen the new mapmaking technology but sadly not.

Compared to NEVADA where i can fly 90 FPS is the CHANNELMAP between 35-45 FPS.

I must get a 4080 TI for this. Oops about two years. (joke) :D

Please ED take a look.

Thank you.

could this be VRam related?

Not sure. But for reference I have a 1080ti which has 11gb of VRAM.

So it's not just me...

Heh - I came here specifically to see if I just had bad luck last night, or if anyone else was experiencing the same problems. Yeah, the stuttering was horrendous. For the record, I'm running a 2080Ti with a Pimax 5K+.

I doubt I'm going to be playing this map very much until they optimize it / fix the performance hit / stuttering.

Same here. Terrible performance. Incredible map detail though so looking forward to it becoming VR optimized.

I also noticed how fast it feels at low altitude. More like what I would expect a fast jet to feel like.

I've set my options to the VR default and made a few tweeks, my ground textures I've set to high Water I've set to high, Anisotropic filtering x4. The rest as I say is default VR setting. My pixel density is 1.5 but I use Oculus tray tool to override any game settings to do that.

I have just done a simple ground attack mission in the P-47 with an A.I wingman 4 german ground vehicles and a Ju-88 and an FW-190A5 to shoot down. I flew over Dunkirk region then over the channel then over Dover then down to Hawkinge and landed. Unlike the other day I am able to maintain 45fps. I shall continue to play with the settings but I have a strong suspicion that MSAA has a huge effect on the channel map, obviously this is set to off with the default VR setting. Its a shame as I've always been able to use MSAA at x2 and maintain 45fps with all other maps including Normandy. To be fair to the guys that developed Normandy I was disappointed with it for a long while and performance was poor but with the last big update they did I think its improved massively they did a great job, but still hope one day colour saturation is improved for VR. Regards the channel map you can see the potential there but yes with MSAA disabled you get the downside, I can see a bit of flickering that the MSAA seems to deal with, I also doubt that you can add lots of ground and air objects without paying a huge price with FPS. But I would say to VR users give it another go with these settings and see if you notice a difference and hopefully ED can optimize things going forward.

I also have the same issue with Rift S and RTX2080. Lovely map and great start on our EA road to nevana!

same card with 11GB --- on the channel map it fills up and that's causing the stutter I'm sure

even with minimum preload there is still a stutter due to vram being full

must be a bug

it doesn't fill it up any more than it does on caucuses 10.7gb used on both on the same settings (albiet in thF-18 rather than the spit)... if you look at the CPU Frame times , this is what is causing the stuttering and poor fps, we can deal with up to 20-21ms maybe a little more on the graphics card side without falling out of Motion smoothing.. but your CPU is much less tolerant, if you go outside of 11ms you end up with a raw frame rate that introduces stuttering .

reducing the draw distance to low turning off shadows, lens effects and heat blur, has quite a good impact on CPU times, and GPU times, but, you still end up with occasional CPU spikes in the yellow (above 11ms).

I don't think its a bug i think its the total number of tablecloths / barrels crates and hedgerows etc...

It is possible to fly the map at very low settings with constant 60 FPS with my 3600X/16GB/1080TI/Reverb/ setup. (Shadows off, low view range, 0.8 PD)

Do I want to fly this way everyday, no. This is just a headsup for those who think they can not fly the map at all, because of the poor performance with your standard settings. It is worth to try out the map at fluid 60 FPS with very low settings.

agreed, if you turn the settings down enough it does become flyable
