best thing then would be to shut the steam version down... as this is just an annoyance to switch back to the non-steam version. By the time I re-load it (about 10 hours, sloow net) and hunt around my hard drive to find my joystick/game settings I could of been playing instead...

They aren't going to do that, I mean its pretty simple, buy it on steam play it on steam, buy it elsewhere, you don't play it in steam... those are valve's rules... Good news is ED doesn't limit you so you can move steam keys to DCS stand alone....

you're missing the point, its not a simple principle of buy on steam play on or elsewhere not as it was not an issue back then. Kickstarter people don't get a choice, this steam problem was not apparent at the time of the kickstarter but now it is and some of us get shafted for it. Its really quite simple for them to support us further in this regard. Just give us a steam key and bill us the difference, we don't care about the extra charge just do it, and they can add an extra profit on the margin if they like, we don't care, just give us the option to upgrade to a steam key.

Ask Steam if they would allow ED to sell there products. If they agree ED may give them to you...

You decide to use Steam, so you either live with the drawbacks of Steam or not. It is not fair to delegate discrepancies of Valve's business model.

As Sithspawn said, you can easily decide what toy you want to buy where! It is like complaining at a local shop why their special products are not available at Wal-Mart's?! Ask Wal-Mart why they don't sell the product?

I actually own several flight sim products, from other publishers, that are available on Steam, however, my licenses do not work on Steam so ED is not the only publisher with this situation.

Again, when it comes to Steam we are playing by Valve's rules, pure and simple. If you dont care about the extra charge, just buy it again on Steam, but we already got a key from the KS for considerably less than what we would have paid for it otherwise, so its really a non issue to me. If you dont like the fact you cant add your existing key to Steam, you need to complain to Valve.

There is absolutely no problem with ED getting keys 'FROM' steam they just cannot 'INJECT' keys into steam. So they should get us a key, give the key, and then bill us the difference.

They do not control the Steam keys, they CANT give you a Steam key even if they wanted to, its all handled through Steam. So just stop now.

Oh but they can issue steam keys, here is one example of the top of my head.

One last time, not going to happen, you get what you get with the KS rewards. Its not going to change. If you have anymore more questions, feel free to open a support ticket on it.

Thanks, i'll do that.

The Issue with Steam not Accepting external Keys has nothing to do with Steam Issuing SteamKeys.

When you Buy an ED Product on Steam, you are issued a Starforce Proactive License key, NOT a Steam Key.

The Issue with Taking an External KEY and Activating on Steam has nothing to do with Activation.

When You were able to activate a NON Steam Key on Steam, they had to have a Database of what each active License Key was,

So When you paste your Starforce Proactive License Key for DCS: A-10C, Steam sees the Key in the A-10C License Keys database and Knows to Add A-10C DLC to your Account Under DCS World DLC and Download that Content.

The Activation / DRM Part is Still controlled by Starforce Proactive, and not Steam. Steam just needs to know what the Key is for.

Steam is No Longer doing this. (Keeping a Database of External Licenses).

So Any Keys Purchased from ED After they stopped Maintaining the Database will simply be unrecognized, as the steam server doesnt know what the license key is for.

When You Boot DCSW Products from Steam, they activate the same way using Starforce Proactive's External Activation, the same way it does when you run stand-a-lone ED Installs, the difference is steam auto-fills in the license key when the window pops up, and it goes through the activation without user input (pressing next, OK etc).

Once Again, it's a Proactive License Key, Not a Steam Product Key.

I don't see the issue.

Install DCS thru ED website.

Add DCS into steam "as non-steam game". It will then show in steam.

Play it.

Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of steam, but that doesn't mean steam is a mandatory solution. :P

Exactly.

The Only thing that changes when you install ED's installer and add to steam as a non steam game is where the updates download from, and that's simply not an issue anymore.

Steam and P51

hi all

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to activate my P51 module in DCS standalone that i purchased on steam quite a while ago but never got around to trying.

I can see my black shark module in steam, my A10C but the P51 does not appear anywhere in my library list to retrieve the CD key but when i try and purchase it it says i already own it.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers

If it doesnt show up under your games, then you have to tell Steam to install DCSW, go through the steps, then pause the download, then delete local files, but leave the empty folder so it remains on you "Library List" you can quickly go back and view CD-Keys again.

So i've noticed that you can get DCS modules from ED page for about half the price of those on Steam, i'm wondering is that some kind of temporary discount? Having to pay 46 euros on steam for Dora when the same thing costs 25 dollars in ED store is putting me off quite frankly, i wish i hadn't gotten DCS on steam to begin with...

They aren't on sale on ED's page right now so it sounds like those are the correct prices for your region. ED's prices are regionally adjusted for economic factors in some areas and Steam 's are not.

Just copy and save your keys from Steam, deinstall DCS W from Steam and reinstall DCS from ED website... :D

Don't install the modules! You need to register your keys with the ED database, the account you use for multiplayer should be the one to login to ED Store/customer section. There you should be able to register the keys?

Actual install of modules is handled through the module manager, after you have a key in the database it should ask to install the module at the next start of DCS World...
