AI Jester / Iceman subtitles

I don't struggle myself despite being partially deaf but definitely see the necessity for subs so 100% support.

Honestly - we'd love to. It's just a matter of development resources presently. We'd need to make strings and associate each string with each statement (..ish). I think we'll get to this eventually.

Sorry for it being an issue from the getgo :( I'll talk to the team and see how difficult this will be to implement and see if we can offer some ballpark implementation time estimate.

I'd happily help/do such a task for free, sounds like it'd wind up being a time consuming menial task i.e. database entry.

Enough monkeys with typewriters and all that.

Well, I'm having some troubles with starting up the aircraft because I can't understand Jester when he tells me he's ready for further steps for starting it up.

I only can hope that subtitles will be soon available someday. Maybe with option for them to be placed like radio subtitles in upper left part or movie alike, in the centre.

Anyhow congratulations on release on early access. :)

Helicopters don't fly, they just subdue the air.

My vote for subtitles too.

Mine too!

It would be great to add the subtitles. Is there any confirmation that they are working on?

I'm also hearing impaired and can't understand so much. :(

Maybe outsource creating text to the community?

The most important information would be the BRA calls.

Nails, Tally, Dirt, o'clocks, distances, angels, waypoints, acknoledgments ... and the numbers.

You might skip jester calls which are not 100% necessary in the first stage, like "a little more to the right ... ", "tell Meg I love her", "shit shit shit".

All audios are on the hard disc, so you don't have to prepare too much.

IMHO the community is on fire to help wherever possible.

Just as idea for an approach!

Hi guys, we haven't forgotten about this idea, just did not have any time yet to get around to it. Likewise we understand its importance, we definitely want the Tomcat to be as inclusive as possible.

First of all, your offers are incredibly kind, and it is possible that we will need this help, simply because time is such a limited factor. So a massive, massive thank you for that already.

Realistically speaking, till mid-September we won't be able to get around to even start on this (time, as always the reason).

I would porpose however that we set up a small meeting for mid september. Those who would be willing to help us, would then meet up with me and we could go through what is required, how it needs to be structured and so on.

Would that work for you guys? If so I would set up the meeting beginning of september then.

Sounds like a plan.

I'll make myself familiar with the files currently on my harddisc, just to have an overview of what is coming. I did this a few months ago, did a quick look, and was wondering how many recordings you made and I said: WOW.

But anyway, I am used to work on lists and thinks long like long John ... :D

Just so that you guys know, we are looking at around 8000 lines that need to be transcribed. If that number puts anyone off, I understand that completely.

If you manage to focus on the most important ones (dont know if you share my idea of prioriticed lists), you can give me 500 for the first package.

If not, I will start anyway ...

When do we start? Today? Tomorrow?

With 80 people it would be just 100 per person... Many with slight variance, so copy / paste.

More important is to break it down into manageable chunks and prevent people working on the same transcripts.

If you don't mind I would start with folders AIRCRAFT, ANGELS and CONTACTS.

What about creating a CSV using 3 columns and "n" rows

n: "Index";"Filename";"TextToDisplay";

n+2: BlackJackHigh;"blackjackHI.ogg";"Blackjack, ";

n+3: FL300;"angelsthirty.ogg";" angels 30";

The index would be your internal identifier (which I don't know) coded in your holy code.

I guess the have very similar names to the filename, don't they?

All "TextToDisplay" might have/have not spaces/commas after and/or in front of the text, depending on your choice, to have the text separated nicely on the screen.

oh yes, ofc I forgot the total number to transcribe is ofc smaller, my bad. all the variations dont need to be transcribed ofc.

Please do not start on anything yet guys, as it will need a certain format and additional sdef files created for each text bit. I need to talk to our guys first to see how we will implement it, then I will know what needs to be done exactly and how and we can start on it. Around mid September, before we won't have time to do anything on this. Thank you for understanding.

It's so nice to know what the things are actually happening. I'm not bothered if it goes slow because I know that it can take a lot of time. But I'm just happy to know that someday subtitles will be there too!

Thank you all, especially both heatblur team and any potential contributors for help and translations.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't gotten back yet. Please do not take it entirely for granted yet, for now the intention is there. We want to be inclusive as much as possible of course, but atm our developers need to check how much effort it is and how to go best about it. It will take a bit longer than expected at least. But don't get disheartened by this, please, I just don't want to raise your expectations too much, and then it turns out that we run out of time or run into some issues etc...

Please keep engaging me in this, I will try and see if we can start ahead with something that would make sense for now, but it will take a bit longer, too. I hope I have enough info in Octobre so we can talk more clearly. Thank you for your patience in the meantime.

Don't worry, I know that's a delicate process and you already have a lot on your plate. I'll just nudge gently here from time to time in the hope that I someday will be able to fully utilise the mighty F-14 Tomcat.

Thanks anyway.

Please do. We certainly don't want to forget about this.
