30fps v 60fps

Recommended Posts

Hi guys - like on some other pc games or Xbox games you can set your video output to 60fps instead of 30fps so your movement seems a little smoother and faster - just like recording video on your smart phone. 1080p30 versus 1080p60 for example.

Is there a way I can force DCS to output to 60fps?

Here... Solid 60 FPS throughout. And yes, V-sync on.

Otherwise it jumps from 50 to 75 or more and this causes stutters.

NO USE AT ALL OF MORE THAN 60 FPS,

because it syncs with the 60 HZ of the monitor, giving very fluid movement.

Unless you have a 144 HZ monitor, but then you will need a graphics card wich has not yet been invented...

No problems mate:

I5 8700k OC’d on air at 4.7ghz

32gb ram

Rtx 2070 OC’d

144hz 34” 1440p uwqhd

Twin SSD WD blacks

DCS has its own 500Gb SSD

You can most certainly run DCS at 60fps and more. Did you already install and try it out? DCS shouldn't run at 30fps on its own, so it'd be something else that's limiting the framerate.

I run 1440p as well, system in my signature...

For 60 FPS in all situations, you will have to turn down some settings, but 60 FPS minimum will be no problem for the majority of the time.

I have only tuned down shadows to low and flat and MSAA2x ( for now ), the rest is High and Extreme visibility, full view distance, trees grass etc.. and can maintain 60+ zooming through PG map, Dubai City etc..

With Shadows at High or MSAA4x I still have 60+ fps, mostly much more, but it tanks down to 50ish in Dubai etc..

If you cannot get close to what we have in fps, reset your driver with DDU, clean and repair DCS, delete fxo and metashader2 folder, set 32GB Pagefile fixed size, use SSD in all involved drives incl PageFile and try again.

Your system should be able to deliver that.

*make sure that you set the GPU in HIGH PERFORMANCE mode in Nvidia cpanel !!

High performance mode in CP - it was my understanding the drivers auto switch your performance modes based on what you are playing? I could be absolutely incorrect in thinking that and more than happy to be proved wrong if it means I can get more FPS out my system ????

It will throttle down to less MHz every now and then, totally unpredictable.

By all means, set it to High Performance mode.

And yes, your assumption is incorrect, it may sense... the wrong thing

* and install MSI Afterburner with it's OSD set to show GPU temp & usage, plus all others you may like to monitor. Often the cards overheat for various reasons and must throttle down. YOu wont find out if you dont monitor it while flying while it happens.
