Baz000
Hi i'm looking to upgrade some components on my PC, in particular the RAM (I have 8 gig DDR3) and the GFX card (I have Nvidia 970) trying to do it on the cheap as much as I can, as ultimately I might end up buying a new PC in a few years. I have I7 2700K, 8 gig RAM, older Asus mobo, and 970GTX, and samsung SSD as well as seagate barracuda HDD. Looking to at least get more RAM at the bare minimum (would Like to make use of the current RAM sticks I have too so they don't go to waste. [2x 4gig]) Also, could use some help trying to setup my monitor so that the colors and gamma etc are all set to match what the standard is... I have AOC E2752S
Dinga
May not be possible to keep that ram unless you have 2 more slots available.Whats your budget?
Johnny_Rico
If you are very lucky you might get away with buying more of exactly the same type (make and model) of RAM and to 16G When I tried that a few years ago it did not work and I ended up having to sell both 8G kits and buying a single 16G kit METAR weather for DCS World missions Guide to help out new DCS MOOSE Users -> HERE Havoc Company Dedicated server info Connect IP: 94.23.215.203 SRS enabled - freqs - Main = 243, A2A = 244, A2G = 245 Please contact me HERE if you have any server feedback or METAR issues/requests
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted April 23, 2018 ED Team Share Posted April 23, 2018 what motherboard and RAM are you using currently Baz? If we have the model number we can look up hardware with compatibility I used to have mixed RAM on an older motherboard, but some do not like it at all best to stick with the same RAM Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Dinga
with out knowing what your budget is Baz I think (and you can guarantee someone will correct me)your best option is to get the extra ram. If you can pick up a reasonably priced second hand graphics card .It would seem a bit pointless buying a new MB as then you probably will not be able to use your current ram ,which is something you said you wanted to do.There are plenty of other guys more knowledgeable than me here that can give you advice on the best option. Demon_
At your resolution, no. At first, overclock the CPU and get 2x8GB. Edited April 24, 2018 by Demon_ Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
Baz000
I have OC'd the CPU to 4.5 ghz already
wizav
I have OC'd the CPU to 4.5 ghz already Your CPU is weak for 1080, it will bottleneck a bit (even if 2700k is still descend CPU) You need 16 GB RAM minimum (for DCS) and 1080 GPU as well. SSD is also must have (for DCS) and 1080 GPU [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Baz000
I think i'm gonna go with a 1080GTX because its on sale, and I will go with another 8 gigs of RAM to make my system a 16 GB system...
BitMaster
As long as you can clock that Sandy skyhigh you won't have to fear much. Another 8GB is for sure not a bad decision to ride that CPU as long as you possibly can. The 1080GTX is a great card and if it is on sale ( still too expensive I guess )..heck..GRAB ONE ;) Happy Flyin' Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
