What should I upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

It's been alomst a year since I stopped DCS because of poor performances.

Im now considering to get back into it and to upgrade my actual config. But well, Im a complete noob when it comes to hardware, what should I change to be able to enjoy DCS at max graphics settings? :noexpression:

My actual PC config:

Intel Core i7 4790

Kingston DDR3 2 x 8 Go 1600 MHz HyperX FURY BLACK CAS10

MSI Z97 GAMING 5

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming WindForce 3X - 4 Go

Thanks in advance guys

Hi,

I am in the same position. I have not been on Dcs for months. Multiplayer is my preference, which is even more demanding on RAM. I have been doing some research and am thinking along these lines.

i5 9600

Asus ZA370 motherboard

32 GB Ram (16 ok if not doing multiplayer)

An SSD nvme 500gb for dcs (250gb is plenty) western digital probably.

My case and psu I will reuse as they are more than up to spec.

My real issue is the graphics card. The costs as a proportion of the rest of the kit is so crazy compared to a few years ago due to all the demand from bitcoin miners. Many dcs posts talk about 1080 or 2080 cards, but I think I will have to go with a 1060 or 1070. Maybe stretch to a 2060 but not sure about 1070 v 1070ti v 2060. I will only be using a 4K monitor. If you want vr I think you need the high end cards.

Be interested to see what you go for.

What display ? Resolution ? VR ? I certainly agree GPU , but further advice impossible without more specifics . Also recommend SSD if you don't have one .

Wait for jully for a cheap AMD 5ghz cpu and motherboard combo. You will still be able to buy a decent graphics card too. I just built 1600+RTX 2060 upgrade for my cousin for 600 euro.

I was absolutely alright with AMD,Rx 580 8g at 2K resolution. They have recently cut the prices, look for AMD RX 590. I would even suggest to buy from second hand. lot of these graphics for nice price. I preffer sapphire or MSI.

Dont have experience with mainstream nvidia card.

Also make sure you will have DCS on fast SSD disk or better M.2 if the Motherboard support it. Look for highest READ speed.

I´m running the same CPU but a GTX 1070, I have no performance issues, even at 3x 2560x1440. What are your expectations? With my setup I´m reaching around 80-90 FPS on one screen and app. 45 FPS on 3 screens with reasonably good settings.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus, 64GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3600 CL16, Asus TUF Gaming RTX 4080 OC, Windows 10 64bit Home Premium, TrackIR 5 with TrackClip: Pro!, Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base + TM Warthog Stick + 7cm extension + WINWING Orion 2 with F-15EX grips, Cougar MFDs with 8" displays, Saitek Rudder Pedals, Samsung Odyssey G9 49" 5120x1440 @120 Hz

You need a beefy setup then, that answer is simple.

The best GPU you can buy, easy, 2080ti

A very fast CPU will headroom, 9900k or the coming Ryzen3850x

A matching board with a good VRM section ( reviews !)

A very potent AIO or DIY loop to keep that reactor cool

32GB RAM 3000MHz+

1-2 x NVMe 500GB-1TB+

maybe a new 850w PSU Platinum specs ( Seasonic wouild be my pick )

A nice screen, 1440p or 4k.

access. as you like and need, Hotas, TiR, VR, are the common gadgets.

Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

Lol he has a 1080p screen and while ur setup is definetely the best performing for games, u simply dont need a 2080ti for max graphix 1080p/60 but man that setup when oced would be perfect dang

Well, I answered his exact question from post #10.

Best of the best with ultra graphics, that's what he asked for and that was my answer.
