Would you fly Civilian/military cargo plane in DCS? Adapting the C-130...

That would be quite different in DCS, since you could be part of a mission to drop cargo in combat zone ... where you would interact with strike/cap group to wait for the good moment to do low passes and drop cargo ...

Would be really fun to circle over a zone while A10 are clearing it out for you you to be able to land for a minute or two...

Carrying cargo around in a combat sim would be WAY different than one in a civ sim.

But after all it stays a drop or landing where the outcome is not dependent on my skills but pure luck. If an enemy fighter strays around you are done, if something bigger than a AK-47 waits for you, you are done… I know that this job has to be done but regarding OP's Question... Nope

I know that some guys here would even like to fly tankers but I can't get comfortable with this :joystick:

I would love to see a C-7 caribou

I think it’s role would be very well suited for the types of maps we have plus add in a tool to make a small airstrip in the mountain or surrounded by trees and you then get the ultimate bush pilot experience.

I would purchase a C-130 Module. Which version? Probably the USMC KC-130J. Also the USAF AC-130A/E/H. There has to be at least two or maybe three variants. I'd buy all three. Lot's of potential for multi-crew. Lots of potential for the pure joy of just hauling cargo from A to B...don't knock it. That can be a fun relief from endless blasting. Or challenging if B is a hot airstrip under fire.

(DDCS)Dynamic DCS, True Unpredictable Perpetual War multiplayer thread

What is the TF-51 function in DDCS server? I've seen it in the role list. Since there is no weapons on it, and I've hardly ever seen anyone fly it, I find it obsolete - BUT from what I've learned from this server before, nothing is in here without a purpose.

Can someone please educate me?

The TF-51 can carry an internal crate and a rifle troop, so it can be used to either repair a destroyed Command Center, create a JTAC, or use the JTAC or rifle troop to capture an enemy base that's been cleared of enemy units. It is being used as a substitute for something like a C-130.

Ab-so-****ing-lutely :)

Also AWACY, Tanker or Electronic Warfare

+1!

Or even acting like a crewmember in an AWACS for target designation or fighter controlling via radio, Loadmaster of a C-17, boom operator in a tanker, or as navigator, bombardier or co-pilot of a B-52 starting from outside of the 3D-modeled map...

DCS would even be interesting as a flight attendant serving cheese sandwiches while 2 MiG-29s intercept your Boeing 747 in 100 ft formation flight. wink.gif

I would surely fly a civilian aircraft from A to B if it was a mission's target to get it there safely, protected by fighters, attacked by others in MP.

Or to drop paratroopers, payload, or what ever it takes to get even closer to the "WORLD" in "DCS World".

Especially if you could do tactical drops, LAPES, Credible Sport take offs and landings, Fulton recovery, gunship missions, etc.

There's a lot that they could do with a C-130 beyond driving from point A to point B.

I don’t think I would enjoy it THAT much.

However, for the sake of mission building, I think the cargo carriers need to further their abilities to do air drops in DCS. I’ve made a thread asking about this two months ago, and it still sits. I don’t know about how other missions people make, but I rarely use cargo/bomber units just because they are only useful for close escort type missions. Sure, they are entertaining. But that’s the only use as of now.

Cargos don’t really affect the tactical aspect of the map in any way. There are ways around it (plane flies over trigger, ground units spawn), but the unit as is programmed doesn’t.

2050 when im dead

Maybe not, it could be done by CaptainSim, who already did it for FSX. It would not take any time on Eagle Dynamics. I contacted them already, we just need to prove them that the community would have enough interest in their C-130 to justify the work.

Not sure 100% that I can link a plane from them here in this forum, but just delete the link (moderator) if I cannot ... no bad intent here.

That C-130 is out of this world (I have it for FSX). A DCS adaptation would be serious content!

What do you mean? Did they got back to you?

Yeah but it was short. Just said that the email was transferred to the dev. group.

I also gave them a link to this thread to see the interest.

I will ping them back in 3-4 weeks if they don't contact me back.

Same. You'd be surprised how many folks would purchase this. One major issue obviously would be how much work would go into this vs FSX. I had the C130 in FSX and absolutely loved it. As I've posted above, the C130 is primarily a cargo a/c with some countermeasures from what I understand, so you wouldn't have to model indepth weapon systems like you do with other DCS war birds. That alone should save some time. But yes, not a Day 1 buy for me...I'd preorder this puppy!! lol

PS. you should try and incorporate a poll or something to actually gauge interest ie. would you buy/pre-order a DCS C-130. Avg cost for a DCS type a/c is around say US$70 so if we get like 1000 'yes' votes thats atleast a rough $70k as a starter.

You have to take everything third party developers say with a grain of salt. They have wonderful intentions and promise the moon and stars but continually fall short, cancel things, or fall apart as companies outright.

Yep you are right. It's funny how many "we are working on this" we have seen that went nowhere lol
