Balkans map would be awesome! :thumbup:

Not only it's a great terrain, but it's also a place of first NATO combat operation.

Best part is, you can literally use it for almost any era of combat in the 20th cdntury.. But in all seriousness yeah, it really would be ideal given how many of our modern jets are in the 1980s-1990s era technologies.

Good point. The Aegean Sea could be included for Carrier Ops from the other side. Oh the missions brewing in my head at this moment. :)

Taiwan, Spratley Islands, Malacca Straights and chunk of SCS would be quite nice. Baltic& Scandinavia theater would be a challenging environment to fly and fight in. North Pacific-Bering Straight-Aleutian chain would be fascinating.

Okay the total amount of landmass I've estimated to be roughly 229,500km^2 (including the part of Italy I've included), the total map size is 335,800km^2

I'd move the map towards NW to include more of Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia, instead of Greece. Aviano base (North East Italy) would be nice to have too, since much of the NATO sorties came from there. That would probably require larger map than the one you proposed.

Well, NTTR has a 336,000km^2 map that is nearly all landmass, so providing water isn't a problem we can move the map up.

I didn't really spend a lot of time on the map so it's a hasty thing anyway - I'll see if alternations can be made.

Sarajevo definately needs to be included, so I would indeed move the map north a bit more...

Yea i think this proposition is better. Moving the map further up north would be more representative of the areas that the Balkans saw conflict with Nato involvement like the Bosnian war of 1994-95 or the Kosovo war of 1998-99

That's pretty much what I had in mind too, only I'd expand it to the East to encompass entire Serbia.

Not it has not been ignored. Two other popular flight sims based on another aircraft covered the Balkan Wars and NATO 1999 Allied Force campaign to protect Kossovo. But ED has rules against posting about other sims.

Well then, here's my advice: ED should seriously note down that while Slovenia is not technically a balkan state, it does get included in it politically because it was part of Yugoslavia, and a lot of refugees from various Yugoslovan countries live here, it is standing on a unique position with a huge transport transit compared to other countries (not by just ratio vs size of the country or population, but the actual number of trucks is 2x more) so it's many times included into central europe and balkans at the same time. It is the most southern part of Central Europe officially anyway.

Why this point? Because it's the northernmost and I'm making sure that this message is heard because it's small and could be forgotten, geographically you might not always find Slovenia included, because it's less than 50% that stretches into the border of Balkan Peninsula, well, actually wikipedia has showing it almost 70% now, I think it's changing, I remember it was only like 30% some years ago, ... oh there you go: "The northern border of the peninsula is variously defined"

That's the first reason, the second reason is that there was also WW2 stuff going on with Nazi Germany occupying part of the northeast and the USA dropping bombs on various castles, bridges, powerplants at the time.

Those lakes and mountains would be cool ... but they're at the very northwest.

But now I'm thinking, if the F-117 were launched from Italy, wouldn't a proper map had to then also include at least half of italy to cover the shore and airfield?
