What is it that shows on the panel or the HUD he is on the glide slope? I’m used to seeing vertical and horizontal bars showing high/low and left/right indications.

You fly the needles on the AI supported by the TACAN on the DG.

If you follow the proper procedures on the requisite approach plate(s) for Nellis, you can fly the ILS to minimums without too much difficulty. The approaches to 21L are a little bit of a Slam Dunk from the IAF to the FAF due to terrain but the gradient is a pretty typical three degrees from about 10 miles out to the threshold.

There really isn't a need for NVGs except for the fact that "night" is currently more like a Black Hole than mere darkness. If you turn off Deferred Shading you can pick up runway lights at night farther out and in a more realistic manner than with DS turned on.
