Hopefully this means we will finally see the long awaited "European" configuration Mustang in the near future as well.

+1 but I’m afraid we ask for to much. Their just putting some new makeup on the old gal to try and make her look a little younger. Lol

i hope they not only update the p51, but also the 109 and 190. compared to the spit, they really lack details, polygons etc.

anyway, judging from the new screenshots, so far im not really impressed. the cockpit just looks way more weathered and old? the actual gauges still look the same,...i.e. the slipball is still just a 2d texture and the lacks any depth. same for the other dials and needles. but its still WIP, and from only two screenshots u cant really get a good impression of what its going to be in game. so i wait and see how the final result looks in game. sure it will be an improvement.

We do know the topic. We don't have final decision. What I can say now is that we will make proper "european" configuration of the plane. And MAY BE we could update its engine at that time. Now our efforts are all about Spitfire.

Currently we have a P-51 D-30 that is apparently a 1945 Pacific theatre configuration of the aircraft.

engine update

So its possible that p-51d would recive 150 octane fuel. Correct me if im wrong but usa used 150ocane fuel from like mid 1944 for all p-51d in europe theater. And maby some sound upgrade, for me iddling sound is far from real.

Correction: only 8th Air Force used P-51s running 150 octane in the ETO - those of the 9th used straight 100 octane.

Whilst this means that the majority of all P-51 units in theatre would have been operating on the 150 grade fuel, it does not be any means indicate that all would.

I genuinely don't understand why it's been so heavily weathered. It's representing a WWII bird roughly as it was in service, so it'd probably look fairly fresh considering the planned lifespan of them in service.

Unless of course, ED are going through with their redevelop plan and this is representing a post-war bird still due to its features, and they'll give a newer cockpit to the actual ETO WWII version.

I do like the weathering on the cockpit interiors myself, glad this is getting some attention. Compared to some newer P-51s available for some other sims, this one was noticeably lagging behind I think, but it deserves some tlc to bring it to the standard of the artwork in other newer DCS modules.

Great news, always liked this plane.

While I'm certainly not a fan of 'factory fresh' offices, I think I prefer the current one to the one in the new images.

Yes it's WIP and maybe seeing it in-game will make all the difference, but I hope there will be an option to keep using the current cockpit.

+1 , same here, of course it is still in wip but in fact it appears too worn ...

Unfortunitly, I believe ED will be damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Period correct weathering and wear in the P-51D cockpit would be relative to an airplane that's less than a year old. I think too many users would complain that "It doesn't look real!"

Dirt

Another thing common in DCS planes not only p-51. I am ok with weather of cocpit and interia but who the hell would allow to fly with dirty cannopy some planes in DCS have uber dirty cannopy. why there is not option to wash your cannopy lol

I think people underestimate how efficient the average 'Erk' (RAF WW2 slang for Groundcrew) was in 'Airmanising' an airframe. To quote the recently passed Tom Neil the Erk was "something of a specialist in reducing even the most streamlined form to scrap metal."

This was wartime. The aircraft were commodities, not the pampered treasures they are regarded as these days.

Most day-to-day maintenance took place in the open, fully exposed to the elements, by people who, whilst trained well, were not in the majority long term vocationally committed to their task.

You've seen too many modern day cossetted P-51s.

Besides, considering some of the more critical bugs/content shortfalls (spotting/visibility, theatre appropriate AI aircraft, map inaccuracies) the fact that people are making such a beef about this seems faintly ridiculous.

thats what i am talking about i cant see anything becouse overdone dirt and static reflections form inside cocpit with poor resolution on glass cannopy in dcs planes
