ED Team NineLine Posted January 19, 2018 ED Team Share Posted January 19, 2018 Normandy is something I hope gets revisited later, the NTTR is like... Why? You don't really have trees there. But if it would improve FPS or AI logic cost somewhat, then why not, if it would even too improve the maintenance? BUT... What is "speedtree" really as performance wise? If just having prettier random trees, then fine, but hopefully it has good impact to the performance too... Speedtrees is probably expensive, so adding it would incur extra costs, If NTTR really doesnt need it, then I am ok with it not being added. Normandy is a 3rd Party map, so I imagine it would be up to them to swallow any extra costs. Now this is just me guessing, I really dont know. I just know that I hope we see some Hedgerows someday in Normandy (I have feature requested it), especially for WWII/CA action. Fri13
I just know that I hope we see some Hedgerows someday in Normandy (I have feature requested it), especially for WWII/CA action. I really hope that at least in the 2-5 year period we can get a new update to maps that adds random generated foliage from rocks, bushes, small trees etc. So that flying low or targeting a ground units would be more beautiful and difficult. But that would really require a new technologies than just draw such thing in a max 1500m distance, as ground vehicles should be blended in to terrain from further distance unless moving or casting shadow, having lights On etc. But already IMHO the Normandy looks good because the alternative terrain altitude and trees. It is just amazing to compare 1.2.x and 1.5.x series those things... i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K. RUS38
Both 1.5 and 2.2 are on my M.2 drive and I only have around 30gb of free space left. Which version should I remove for the update? I guess the update will copy some files from 2.2?

Ayindi
Yes, but if I understood him correctly, he has only a certain amount left that it not big enough to store 2.5 so he has to remove a version to even install 2.5 ;) I'd remove 1.5 since the map has probably no reuse value for 2.5 while NTTR can probably be used for 2.5. Just a guess, though...
NeilWillis
Yep if you have to delete one install to update, then 1.5 will be the best candidate. The NTTR map (if installed) is huge, and Normandy is also exclusively a 2.* installation. All airframes are applicable to both versions, so that will account for the majority of reusable data. Keep both if you can, but if you are stuck for space, then keep 2.2 and delete 1.5 would be my guess too.
Holton181
I assume it's not possible to install 2.5 without the new Caucasus? To take advantage of both 2.2 and 1.5 with limited storage space, and deinstall 2.2 to make room for Caucasus later on? For me 1.5 will stay for a while being an exclusive SP gamer. I want bug free missions and campaigns (haven't played Vergeev Group Ka-50 campaign yet, updated for 1.5 but I guess won't come to 2.5) Helicopters and Viggen DCS 1.5.7 and OpenBeta Win7 Pro 64bit i7-3820 3.60GHz P9X79 Pro 32GB GTX 670 2GB VG278H + a Dell PFT Lynx TrackIR

I understand your concerns, I mostly play SP as well, though 3rd party Campaign creators have had the better part of january for all their 2.5 fixes, so I hope there won't be as many problems. Most of the issues arisen from the 2.5 merge were placement issues with the new forests iirc. Release 2.5 is a clean new install. So I would delete 2.2.

So I would delete 2.2.Didn't know that 1.5 will become 2.5 beta. Doesn't matter, I will keep 1.5 (most likely 1.5.7, .8 is to bugy) and not update it. 2.5 release will, for what I know, copy a lot of information from 2.2 and maybe 1.5 (1.5.8 that I have now), will save data plan and download time.
