Max Dive Speed

Recommended Posts

I had Problems with losing my Elevators D9 in a Dive, in a Dive behind a P-51 was able to realy good Pin Point the exact Speed witch is to low...

With a max Dive Speed of 860Km/h IAS under 2 Km at 830 Km/h at Ground Level losing Parts is offset...

I'd like to see a track, I am able to survive a dive of high speeds like that as long as I dont try and over do it on manoeuvres... looks like as you lost the part, you were pulling up hard enough that at those speeds you might lose something.

And in testing, I find it can vary as well, sometimes I lose something, sometimes I lose nothing, sometimes I lose all. Depends on how aggressive I yank on the stick.

I will provide a Track with further Testing with Standard Atmosphere (1013Hpa) Pressure repetable Process with the Input Window.

I do mainly the High Speed Dives only with Trim, to avoid Pulling on the Elevator.

The next thing only Yoyo will probably can Answer this Question is, for witch Dive Speed the D9 in DCS is rated.

I have seen from 850 Km/h to 900 km/h D9 max Dive rating, but even 850 Km/h are converted 525 Mph witch is 20 Mph over the DCS Limitation of the P-51.

Take this Video at this Time because the P-51 was pulling much harder defensive Action in front of me as comparison.

From the manual:

Dive

• Dive speeds for fighters and fighter-bombers equipped with airspeed indicator FI 22234.

o at 9 km altitude IAS = 500 km/h

o at 7 km altitude IAS = 600 km/h

o at 5 km altitude IAS = 700 km/h

o at 3 km altitude IAS = 800 km/h

o at 2-0 km altitude IAS = 850 km/h

• Engine speeds of 3300 RPM as short period maximum must not be exceeded.

There may be an issue with the P-51 being too strong, I can check that as well.

This type of damage is affected over time the more you do as well, so you might survive a strong move in a dive, but have weakened the aircraft. So perhaps the P-51 got lucky where you didnt. Maybe next time it will be reversed.

Shouldn't there be an increasing amount of air-frame buffeting as the aircraft approaches the speeds at which stuff begins falling off? I've noticed that despite the huge speeds during a dive the ride remains very smooth.

I honestly have no idea whether realistically there should be some sort of buffeting/vibration at these 'terminal' velocities, hence the question.

Its a fair question, something we are heavily working on with the new DM as well, especially with damage, how the aircraft gives you feedback, as for a highspeed dive, I am not sure. You should feel it in the controls, how responsive they are, but not sure beyond that.

there are basicly to speeds limiting plane

1st is max IAS speed repesenting strenth of the airframe to the airflow

2nd is max MACH number

when you diving at low altitudes you must watch to not exeed airframe max speed

when approaching max speed for airframe i am sure that controls would become very very hard even a smallest deflection would require a lot of force from pilot

for example p-51 when accelerating start pitching up and without elevator trim pilot is not able to push stick enough to keep flight path it will pull out of the dive so pilot need to trim it down in order to keep diving but any crazy vibrations should not be present.

whne it comes to diving from high alt from 35000ft p-51 will be far from airfraim limit but it will approach max MACH number then vibration on controls would occure following with lost of control of the plane when keep accelerating then only hope to regian control over plane is to fly in to more dence air to lower mach speed of the plane.
