I pull the handle, but it doesn't seem to do anything. What is it supposed to do, and is anyone else having any problems with it?

Emergency Brake System

An emergency brake system is provided in the event that the normal brake system fails.

The emergency brake system is activated by first pulling the EMER BRAKE handle fully

aft and then depressing the rudder/brake pedals. The right hydraulic system supplies the

emergency brake system which has the same capabilities as the normal brake system

except anti-skid protection. The emergency brake system is fully independent of the

normal brake system except for the dual power brake valve, shuttle valve, and brake

assembly. Should left hydraulic system pressure become available while emergency

braking is selected the emergency brake system still retains control of the brakes.

Emergency braking power is provided by the emergency brake accumulator should the

right hydraulic system fail. Actuation of the EMER BRAKE handle ports right hydraulic

system pressure to the emergency brake system. Right hydraulic system pressure

provides unlimited emergency braking.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

A-10C has no parking brake - something that pilots complain quite a lot about...

If it has no parking brake, then what does the emergency brake do?

As mvsgas qouted from the manual it lets you use toe brakes in case there is a failure to normal hydraulic system (right);

Emergency braking power is provided by the emergency brake accumulator should the

right hydraulic system fail.

Here is a shot that shows how the hydraulic system looks like

If it has no parking brake, then what does the emergency brake do?

It sources the hydraulic pressure from the other system than normal (right side instead of normal left). If you start the right engine first then you must switch the brakes to use the other hydraulic channel so you can apply brakes in the time when only the right engine is running.

Any time the left hydraulic system isn't pressurized and you need brake function then you must switch the brakes to the alternate source. In right hyd mode you lose anti-skid and I think NWS maybe?

Now it makes sense. Thank you all for the explanation.
