A/A Gun modes manual vs jet

RED

Recommended Posts

from page 177, discrepancies marked red between jet and manual for gun modes:

At any time, you can also select one of the ACM RADAR sub modes. ACM sub modes are selected by

pressing the Sensor Control Switch forward. Once in ACM mode, the Sensor Control Switch can select

three ACM sub modes.

• Boresight (BST) Sensor Select switch forward

• Vertical Acquisition (VACQ) Sensor Select switch aft

• Wide Acquisition (WACQ) Sensor Select switch left

Note 1: When the RADAR is at a 5 nm range setting, ownship airspeed and altitude are displayed

inside the RADAR display.

Note 2: When in a turning fight, VACQ can often be a good choice to lock up a target above your lift

vector.

To return to GACQ, select GUNS on the Weapon Select Switch.

Track attached shows selection of different radar modes and discrepancies.

You have to select a different weapon and guns again to get into GACQ mode.

Note 2 also doesn't make much sense. "Above lift vector" would be somewhere vertical to the lift vector. "Along the lift vector" or "above the nose" would be better. The term lift vector is not described in the manual.

Another thing: when the A/A gun is selected, and you hit undesignate in ACM, to include GACQ, it returns to scan but is still technically in ACM. I believe you should always at minimum have to be in GACQ when the gun is selected (this is based off other sims, can't say anything else due to rule 1.15).

Indeed, track shows that, too. ACM modes are not all implemented. Current ones are probably just WIP.
