DCS: Christen Eagle II by Magnitude 3 LLC Available for Download

Purchase from DCS e-shop

Fly the Christen Eagle II today! The Christen Eagle II, which later became the Aviat Eagle II in the mid-1990s, is an aerobatic biplane aircraft that has been produced in the United States since February 1977.

Designed by Frank Christensen, a veteran WW2 P-51D pilot and aerobatic competitor, it was originally built to compete with the Pitts Special. You’ll find that the Eagle is hard to beat in terms of flying excitement and adventure, and yet the ease of control allows even average pilots to feel like masters of aerobatics.

Although DCS World is a combat simulation as its focus, it is certainly not limited to only military aircraft. We are delighted to bring the Christen Eagle II and other civil aircraft into our simulation and expanding what DCS can offer.

The Enemy Within 3.0 Campaign by Baltic Dragon

This week Baltic Dragon’s latest A-10C campaign was released that can be

purchased here.

The Enemy Within 3.0 is a complete remake of the critically-acclaimed The Enemy Within campaign for the A-10C Warthog. This story-driven campaign puts you in cockpit of the Warthog as part of a small, 6-ship US detachment sent to Georgia. Your mission is to help contain a growing threat from a terrorist organization calling itself the "Caucasus Liberation Army" (CLA). As the story unfolds, you will be faced with a variety of challenges, including close air support, precision strikes, combat search and rescue, anti-ship strikes, and even air to air combat.

Striving to be as realistic as possible, the units featured in the campaign are based on their real-life counterparts. It also uses a sophisticated radio control system, meaning that you must tune your on-board radios to the correct frequency to hear the more than 2000

custom voice overs available throughout 21 missions.Compared to the original campaign, version 3.0 offers following great additions and changes:

  • 20 out of 21 missions have been rewritten from scratch. This includes the course of action, dialogues, briefings and background information.
  • More than 2/3 of the missions take place in different locations than the original ones, and most feature different challenges and enemies to provide a completely new experience, 3 entirely new missions that are designed to complement and extend the storyline.
  • The 8 pilot and 3 commander characters featured throughout the campaign have almost 4x more custom voice overs (over 2100).
  • Additional documents and custom kneeboard pages are available for each sortie.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update

Our Hornet team continues their hard work on the cockpit systems, sensors and weapons of the F/A-18C. The current focus is on:

  • Target of Opportunity (TOO) and Pre-Briefed (PB) HARM modes. Once complete, we will start work on the Litening II targeting pod for the Hornet; the ATFLIR will come at a later point in early access. Note that US Marine Corps Hornet’s operate the Litening II pod. However, this is not a simple copy and paste from the A-10C Litening II pod; this is still a significant amount of work, but it will allow us to bring a Hornet TGP into the game faster than the ATFLIR.
  • A huge amount of work is ongoing with the data link (D/L). This is probably the most complex system for the Hornet given the network sharing and new code that needs to be created. We are making good progress, and it will be a “game changer”. This will also address a new system of IFF in which locking an aircraft is no longer required to IFF interrogate it. The Hornet can operate on a D/L network and receive and correlate data from other Link-16 equipped aircraft (F/F) and surveillance aircraft like E-2 and E-3 AWACS (SURV).
  • In additional to cleaning up the DUD and fuze logic / pull-up cue and break X for HD bombs, progress has been quite rapid on JDAM and JSOW. Like D/L, this is also a rather complex task that will take time. Like HARM, these GPS-guided weapons have both TOO and pre-planned modes with many attack options.
  • Work is ongoing on the Latent Track While Scan (LTWS) and Track While Scan (TWS) air-to-air radar modes. This will in turn tie into the D/L.

We expect to see several of these items available this month.

New DCS World Features

Available now in the Open Beta and coming soon, are two new features for DCS World:

  • Wake Turbulence. Just like the wake behind a ship, an aircraft also produces a turbulence wake behind it, with the strongest forces coming off the wingtips as vortices. DCS World will now be modeling these as an option and will add a new level of realism and challenge when flying formations, aerial refueling, and air-to-air combat.
  • Battle Damage Assessment. Displayed along the left side of the screen when a target is damaged or destroyed by the player, these notifications appear. A red notification indicates a destroyed target and a yellow notification with a percentage indicates a damaged target. When in the cockpit, it can often be difficult to know if a target was hit and damaged. This optional feature is provided to remove that mystery.

DCS: MiG-19P Farmer Update

The MiG-19P was originally planned for a release in January, but after an extensive review of the MiG-19, we and RAZBAM have decided to postpone its release until a few items are resolved. These include some needed improvements to the flight model and documentation. It’s RAZBAM’s desire to release the MiG-19P in a finished state so it will need just a little more time in the oven to meet this expectation.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Mission Editor Templates

Creating accurate composition for unit groups like a Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) battery can be a bit complex and timely for new Mission builders. We recently added many new SAM templates to the Mission Editor that includes systems for the United States, Russia, Iran, and others.

This allows you to simply select a country and the SAM system, and place an entire battery with one mouse click.

Centaur IV Tank for DCS: World War II Assets Pack

One of the next units to be added to the World War II assets pack will be the Centaur IV close support tank. Developed from the British Crusader tank, the Centaur possessed heavier armor and armament, along with higher speed and mobility. Its low profile and high speed made it particularly popular as a reconnaissance tank, although its vertical sided armor proved less effective than the thinner sloped armor of the Sheman. The name Centaur was given to the earliest A27 designs, powered by World War One-era Nuffield Liberty aero-engines. These proved badly underpowered.

During World War II Royal Marines fought for the first time in tanks. The tank was driven by a member of the Royal Artillery, but the guns were manned by the Royal Marines of the Armored Support Group. During the inter-war years and World War Two the Royal Marines developed much equipment for the purpose of amphibious warfare.

The Centaur IV was designed as a close support tank and armed with a 95 mm (3.74 in) howitzer (51 HE rounds in store). It was in service with the Royal Marines Armored Support Group and converted as “Hobbart’s funnies” with wading gear to get them ashore. Engine inlets and gun covers prevented any flooding. 114 were produced and soldiered on from D-Day to V-Day. The armor thickness on the front of the turret was 2.5 inches (63.5 mm). On the side and rear of the turret it was 2 inches (50.8 mm) thick. The vertical armor on the upper hull was 2.5 inches (63.5 mm) thick.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS: F-16C Block 50 and Other News

sv0vnL0.png

DCS: F-16C Update

As mentioned in our yearly wrap up, one of our biggest projects for this year is the legendary F-16C Fighting Falcon, also called the Viper. In parallel with the Hornet, we already have a sub-team working on the Viper that includes programmers who have completed their Hornet tasks. Much of their focus is currently on the flight model, Flight Control System (FLCS), cockpit and the external model. Using much of what we learned with the Hornet, progress has been good, and is in no way slowing down Hornet completion.

As we pour the concrete, we can start to pass along some of our plans. Please remember they are plans, not timeline promises.

Our Viper will be an F-16C with the Common Configuration Implementation Program (CCIP) upgrade. We feel this to be the most versatile version of the F-16 with capabilities for SEAD, precision attack, close air support, anti-ship, and of course air-to-air. We will be taking great care though to develop a very accurate simulation of the F-16C Block 50 operated by the United States Air Force and Air National Guard circa 2007.

Core systems of our F-16C include:

  • F-110-GE-129 turbofan engine
  • AN/APG-68(V)5 multi-mode radar
  • AN/ALR-56M Radar Warning Receiver
  • AN/ALQ-131/184 ECM pods
  • CCIP (Common Configuration Implementation Program) update
  • ALE-47 countermeasure system

This will be a massive project, so we will separate it into two phases: Phase 1 Early Access release and then Phase 2 Product Sustainment.

Phase 1 Early Access Release:

  • Color Multifunction Display (CMFD) symbology, Horizontal Situation Display (HSD) format, and Head-up Display (HUD) symbology
  • Digitally TACAN and Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicator (EHSI)
  • BDU-33, BDU-50LD/HD, Mk-82LDGP, Mk-82AIR, Mk-84LDGP, BLU-109/B, CBU-87 CEM, and CBU-97 SFW unguided bombs
  • 2.75” rockets LAU-68 and LAU-131
  • Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS)
  • AIM-9L/M/P/X Sidewinder
  • AIM-120B/C AMRAAM
  • M61A1 20mm cannon

Phase 2 Product Sustainment:

  • Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS)
  • Link 16 Data Link
  • AGM-65D/G/H/K Maverick
  • AGM-88C HARM
  • AN/ASQ-213 HARM Targeting System (HTS)
  • Sniper XR Advanced Targeting Pod
  • GBU-10, GBU-12, GBU-24A/B laser-guided bombs
  • BRU-57/A Smart Rack
  • CBU-103 CEM and CBU-105 SFW Inertially Aided Munitions (IAM)
  • GBU-31/A, GBU-32, and GBU-38/B JDAM
  • AGM-154/A and /B JSOW
  • AGM-158/A JASSM
  • Integration of the JHMCS with the HARM Targeting System (HTS), Link 16, and AIFF
  • ALE-50 towed decoy

As this project accelerates, we will be providing updates to keep you abreast of our progress to this much awaited addition to DCS World.

Updated A-10C Warthog Update and Other DCS World News

Updated A-10C Warthog Update and Other DCS World News

y5ws3dt.png

DCS: A-10C Warthog Update

In addition to the creation of new modules, maps, and campaigns, we are also quite busy updating older content. Because DCS World is such a long-lived product that is continually updated, some content will become, and look outdated as the technology advances. Two good examples of this are the very popular A-10C Warthog and Ka-50 Blackshark modules. These modules are receiving significant updates that include a complete re-build of the cockpit geometry and textures. These will take advantage of deferred shading, physical based rendering, and proper VR projection in regards it the A-10C.

6sXfET4.jpgHnuFXtE.jpg

In parallel, we also continue to update older AI units, the Su-34 Fullback being the most recent example. Over time, we will also update other older models like the C-17, Tu-95, and others. However, given the extreme detail put into each of these modules, it takes time.

In today’s newsletter, we have a look at the new geometry that has been created for the A-10C cockpit.

Features of the Dedicated Server include:

  • Run a server without the need of a render. This allows a server to need less RAM and only a very simple video card.
  • The CPU processor load is lower, so you can use a less-powerful CPUs or run more complicated missions instead.
  • You can run multiple copies of a Dedicated Server on one PC. Computer capabilities can be used more fully when you start servers in different CPU threads.
  • A Dedicated Server can be controlled remotely via WebGUI.

Although we have tested extensively internally and with several community servers, there may be non-official scripts that will not function well with a Dedicated Server. We ask that you report such issues and/or avoid using non-supported scripts.

New pre-launch video

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a two-crew, variable geometry, maritime air superiority fighter that served with the US Navy for 32 years and continues to serve with the IRIAF in Iran. The F-14 was the US Navy's frontline fighter from the 1970s until the mid-2000s. Over the course of its long service life it also became the US Navy’s premier precision ground-attack platform and lone airborne reconnaissance asset.

F14-350.jpg.d0b8baf7dff96734827ada881c99ec74.jpg

Outstanding features of the aircraft are the swing-wing configuration, crew of two, and the powerful AN/AWG-9 Weapons Control System (WCS) and radar. The AWG-9 allows employment of the powerful AIM-54 Phoenix air to air missile while the LANTIRN pod allows the ability to carry out precision ground strikes using laser guided bombs. The F-14 Tomcat was present during many pivotal historic moments such as the two Gulf of Sidra incidents, Operation Desert storm in Iraq, the conflict in Yugoslavia, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was also immortalized in the iconic motion picture, Top Gun, and starred in several other feature films including The Final Countdown, Executive Decision, and others.

DCS: Christen Eagle II Available on Steam

The Christen Eagle II by Magnitude 3 LLC is now available on Steam

The Christen Eagle II, which later became the Aviat Eagle II in the mid-1990s, is an aerobatic biplane aircraft that has been produced in the United States since February 1977.

Christen-Eagle-2_350.jpg.ea8916e7053367fad302d10a9c6b1bc2.jpg

Designed by Frank Christensen, a veteran WW2 P-51D pilot and aerobatic competitor, it was originally built to compete with the Pitts Special. You’ll find that the Eagle is hard to beat in terms of flying excitement and adventure, and yet the ease of control allows even average pilots to feel like masters of aerobatics.

Dare to fly like a true eagle, whether you are learning to fly, or you are an experienced pilot. Inside this powerful aerobatic beauty, you can enjoy solo aerobatics, do tight formation flying, graze the landscape sightseeing, or speed race down the track. You can even teach other people to fly. The smoke system allows you to visualize your stunts for yourself and other viewers. To extend the Eagle’s prowess in DCS, we implemented an internal and external light system which will keep you safe day and night, and a simple autopilot which will allow you to grab your favorite drink while your aircraft safely levels and awaits your return.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

ED Miles update and Crash Reporting Tool details

ED Miles update and Crash Reporting Tool details

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.22ac73f13d0fc840c05ca0a777adc018.jpg

DCS World ED Miles Update

After reading your feedback from our earlier announcement of the upcoming ED Miles loyalty program, we have modified our plans to better support our clients with Bonus Program points. Rather than have Bonus Program points expire at the launch of the ED Miles, we will allow Bonus Program points to expire one year from their earning or until March 31st, 2020, whichever comes first. This will allow all clients to use their Bonus Program points for up to one year since the points were earned. Additionally, you can get up to 30% off DCS World e-Shop purchases using your Bonus Points during the week before the launch of ED Miles. This will include all developers taking part in the Bonus Program.

Crash Reporting Tool

crash_report.jpg.7043e3a92af0d403063ab61ba3d6602a.jpg

As some of you may have experienced already, we have added a function to the core of DCS World to submit information directly the Eagle Dynamics Team. When a crash occurs in DCS World, a window will pop up, and allow you to send the required logs and associated files to the team, as well as a message describing the issue.

Why should you take part? This is a great way to add another layer of support to DCS World in order to catch and fix major blocking issues, especially those that take part in Open Beta Testing. DCS World will recognize that a crash has occurred, and collect the required files and logs needed for the ED Team to identify and fix the issue. These files can be logs, tracks and crash files.

What do I need to do to use this feature? In the unfortunate event that you do experience a crash, DCS World will collect all the files on its own, in the window that pops up, you will see a comment box. To the best of your knowledge, try to describe, or give steps to repeat the crash you experienced, if you are using any modifications (ranging from custom aircraft to a simple LUA edit). Once you have fully described the issue you experienced, just hit submit. That's it. No collecting the files yourself, posting on the forums, etc.

What is ED collecting from me? You can see for yourself what you are sending to ED, by clicking on the "Open in Explorer" you will see the files being submitted to us.

After submitting, what is next? For you, really nothing. If you want to open a support ticket or a forum thread about the issue, you can, but it shouldn't be needed. For us, we will examine everything given, and try to decide what the best course of action is for DCS World, whether it's a hotfix or information about other issues, such as a bad modification.

While this isn't as exciting as a new aircraft, or new gameplay feature, it's a very important and powerful tool to make sure that DCS World remains as stable and playable as possible. Being able to act on major issues as those reported by this feature, make the turnaround time for an action to fix major issues much less. For those of you that take the time to report and provide information on DCS World, we appreciate all that you do to try and help make DCS World better. We hope that a feature like this helps you help DCS World grow and improve going forward.

Patch Updates

Currently, the plan is to release a Hotfix today (March 22nd), Open Beta update on March 27th and Stable Release April 3rd. We will let you know if this changes further, thanks all for your patience!

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS: Fw 190 A8 First flights

We would like to share some exciting news on the progress of the Fw 190 A8 for DCS World. As we approach the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Fw 190 back in the spring of 1939, the module for DCS World has taken its own first flight internally. As you can see in the included screenshots, while still early, progress is moving along at a good pace. With this new module comes some new features, such as the new fan-assisted air cooling model introduced to the oil cooling and engine air intake system.

Starting from the A8 oil cooler, the system will hold true with our current engineering approach and use the same math for radiators which has become much more efficient in compiling (saving time and minimizing mistake probability) as well as adding new opportunities for integration with the new Damage Model. Because of this it will handle punctures and over-heating correctly and is a much more robust system regarding any weird combination of input parameters. Eventually, this new system will replace the old one in all WWII aircraft.

2019-03-29-Fw-190-A-8-01-238.jpg.0091d5dc5c64d8d3e5eb33fbeb57d244.jpg2019-03-29-Fw-190-A-8-02-238.jpg.7a8204108370c8d9ffed4994e71a5a1f.jpg2019-03-29-Fw-190-A-8-03-238.jpg.ba3fed355cd168ce604ba9e52595fd69.jpg

The Fw 190 was designed by engineer and Test pilot Kurt Tank. The team he assembled to create this new fighter from the outset wanted a design with a much different approach than what was taken for the Bf 109. The design was to be a smaller tougher and easier to maintain. Inspired by a captured I-16 Rata, which was able to out turn the faster Bf 109, the Germans could see the benefit of the shorter wings and smaller design, wrapped around a powerful radial engine.

The A8 variant was the largest produced version of the Fw 190 and should provide an excellent opponent to the current plane set in DCS World, especially the Spitfire IX. Enjoy this sneak peek at the progress on this module, and stay tuned for more news in the not so distant future.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Although this map is now content-complete, we will of course to continue to support the map with fixes as required. We are now excited to focus on a new, free map for DCS World.

Free Maps and World War II Assets Pack for Dedicated Servers

In this week’s Open Beta, we have enabled dedicated servers using the no-render option to use all DCS World maps and the Assets Pack for free!

Features of the Dedicated Server include:

  • Run a server without the need of a render. This allows a server to need less RAM and only a very simple video card.
  • The CPU load is lower, so you can use a less-powerful CPUs or run more complicated missions instead.
  • You can run multiple copies of a Dedicated Server on one PC. Computer capabilities can be used more fully when you start servers in different CPU threads.
  • A Dedicated Server can be controlled remotely via WebGUI.
  • Although we have tested extensively internally and with several community servers, there may be non-official scripts that will not function well with a Dedicated Server. We ask that you report such issues and/or avoid using non-supported scripts

DCS World Open Beta Update

In addition to the finalization of the Persian Gulf Map and the ability for no-render dedicated servers to run all DCS World maps and the Asset Pack for free, there have been several other great additions to this weeks Open Beta update. You can read the complete change log here.

Purchase from Steam

This story-driven campaign puts you in cockpit of the Warthog as part of a small, 6-ship US detachment sent to Georgia. Your mission is to help contain a growing threat from a terrorist organization calling itself the "Caucasus Liberation Army" (CLA). As the story unfolds, you will be faced with a variety of challenges, including close air support, precision strikes, combat search and rescue, anti-ship strikes, and even air to air combat.

Striving to be as realistic as possible, the units featured in the campaign are based on their real-life counterparts. It also uses a sophisticated radio control system, meaning that you must tune your on-board radios to the correct frequency to hear the more than 2000 custom voice-overs available throughout 21 missions.

Compared to the original campaign, version 3.0 offers following great additions and changes:

  • 20 out of 21 missions have been rewritten from scratch. This includes the course of action, dialogues, briefings and background information.
  • More than 2/3 of the missions take place in different locations than the original ones, and most feature different challenges and enemies to provide a completely new experience, 3 entirely new missions that are designed to complement and extend the storyline.
  • The 8 pilot and 3 commander characters featured throughout the campaign have almost 4x more custom voice-overs (over 2100).
  • Additional documents and custom kneeboard pages are available for each sortie.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS World Open Beta Update

This week we updated the DCS World Open Beta with special attention to the Hornet. The Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) now has improvements to the flight model/autopilot. With this enhancement, we can later add programming of terminal attack parameters like heading, impact angle, and velocity. We have also tuned its Launch Acceptable Region (LAR) logic, glide range, and corrected a crash bug related to quantity settings. The team is now hard at work on implementing the AGM-154 Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW) and Multi-Sensor Integration (MSI) for Latent Track While Scan (LTWS) mode for an upcoming update.

You can read the complete Open Beta changelog here.

To better support JDAM coordinate targeting in Pre-Planned mode, we have plan to later add the ability to display coordinates on the Mission Editor map and the F10 View map Degrees/Minutes/Seconds/Decimal values. Cycle through coordinate display option available by press [Left Alt + Y] or you can change it in the options menu. Once you enter Degrees/Minutes/Seconds, press ENT on the UFC to then enter the two-digit decimal value and then press ENT again on the UFC.

SA-5 “Gammon” SAM Coming to DCS World

To further include a comprehensive set of Soviet/Russian air defence systems, we will be adding the SA-5 Gammon (S-200) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system. The SA-5 is a very long-range SAM that was designed in the 1960s to primary counter long-range bombers. Each missile has four, large rocket boosters attached to the central core rocket. The SA-5 is often compared to the Space Shuttle at launch. Under optimal conditions, the SA-5 can engage targets out to 300 km and 40,000 meters in altitude. Maximum speed is approximately Mach 4.

In the nose of the missile is a semi-active radar homing seeker that homes in on radar guidance, in combination with mid-course correction, from the “Square Pair” engagement radar.

The missile is armed with a large 217 kg fragmentation warhead.

More WIP screenshots

The SA-5 is a threat to high-value assets like AWACS and tankers that may stray to close to the battle area. Operated by both Syria and Iran, this SAM system will be a great addition to DCS World.

In parallel to this effort, we are also designing support for Integrated Air Defense System (IADS) networks and more advanced air defence AI to include shared-time searches, counter-SEAD/DEAD tactics, and SAM traps. Together, DCS will provide the most realistic and challenging air defence simulation to operate in.

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

Damage Model Update and Other DCS World News

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.f49e262856a81ffef10c20a08f02c82c.jpg

Damage Model Progress Update

Our new damage model is currently being implemented and tuned to the specifics of each of our internally developed WWII aircraft in DCS World. Each aircraft has unique hydraulics, pneumatic and electrical systems, materials and kinematics. As a result, the predicted damage depends on the type and location of impact will vary substantially. The internal effect such as coolant or oil temperature variation, loss of pressure, loss of control or other effects should, in turn, generate the corresponding predicted the internal and/or external visual effect.

Our AI aircraft will also be tuned appropriately and this work is ongoing. We have also added some great tools for testing the damage model on our internal builds. With these tools, we can track the trajectory of hits, shrapnel and damage suffered. In the attached screenshot, you can see the result of a testing session with a Me-109K-4 vs some Flak fire. In the X-ray log window, you can see how different hits make their way into and in some cases through the aircraft. In one instance, an object enters the left tail and stops in the right tail. While the graphical representation isn't the exact location, on the aircraft you will see damage entering at this location, but not exiting on the other side. In another case, you can see objects entering the wing tip, and exiting the middle of the wing. Again, the damage would show on both sides of the wing, based on objects entering and exiting it. As well, you can see how an object entered one Ammo Box, severed the ammo belts on 2 guns, as well as severing a fuel line before stopping in a second ammo box. If you were to use those guns, you would run out of ammo before the indicators showed you did. You can see by the log data that we track the path of the object, the material and/or items passing through it.

913508399_DMUpdate.thumb.jpg.569454a3dde39d052b293400ec276fcc.jpg

I hope this update gives you a better understanding of what we are aiming to achieve with our new damage model. We trust that it will be to your satisfaction.

Update of Russian Ural-375 Trucks

While the weapon systems often get the spotlight, it is also important that support units continue to be updated and improved as DCS World grows and evolves. This is part of an ongoing effort to update all older DCS World units.

DCS I-16 by OctopusG Now Available in Open Beta and Other News

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.f393c66b2dc4af91b457a937c439a072.jpg

DCS: I-16 Now Available!

The Polikarpov I-16 fighter, developed by 3rd party studio OctopusG, is now available for download!

The I-16 was a Soviet, monoplane fighter developed during the 1930s inter-war years. It was innovative for its time with a low-wing cantilever design and retractable landing gear. It was the USSR’s primary fighter at the start of World War 2 where it primarily battled the Bf 109 Emil. In addition to the Second World War, the I-16 was also used in the Spanish Civil War and the second Sino-Japanese War.

DCS-I-16-cover-280x400.jpg.f417c70c5180be84ad0cc8a54b7aaef3.jpg

The I-16 type 24 was powered by an M-63 radial engine that gave it a top speed of 462 kph. The aircraft was armed with four 7.62 ShKAS machine guns. In total, 7,000 single seat versions of this famous fighter were built.

The I-16 is a fun and interesting aircraft and further grows our stable of warbirds. This aircraft is particularly interesting when flown in virtual reality.

DCS_FW-190A-8_280.jpg.001c47cc2339cd722eaf31eb0e0a8758.jpg

Designed for the German Luftwaffe by famed aircraft designer Kurt Tank in the late-1930s, the Fw 190 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe in both fighter and attack bomber roles. Powered by a large radial engine, the A version of the Focke-Wulf 190 was superior in many ways to the Bf 109s and Spitfires at the time of its introduction. In fact, this led to the development of the Mk.IX version of the Spitfire. The Spitfire LF Mk.IX and the Fw 190 A-8 make excellent counterparts for DCS World. The Fw 190 later evolved into the Fw 190 D-9, also available on DCS World.

Many of the Luftwaffe’s aces racked up their impressive kill counts in the Fw 190 A due to its impressive fire power, excellent low to medium altitude performance, durability, and ease of flying. It saw action on both the eastern and western fronts where it was both respected and feared by allied pilots. Armament included two fuselage-mounted 13 mm MG 131 machine guns and four wing-mounted MG 151/20E 20 mm cannons. The aircraft could also be loaded with unguided rockets and bombs.

The A-8 version of the Fw 190 entered production in February 1944, and it was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 radial engine. In addition to excellent low- and medium-altitude performance, the engine was also very rugged. Along with the F-8 version, it also had thicker armor around the engine. The engine also received the C3 injection system that provided an emergency boost of 1,980 PS in short durations.

Nicknamed the Viper by its pilots, the F-16 was designed with a reclined seating position for high G tolerance and a single-piece bubble canopy for exceptional visibility and comfort. Its lightweight and powerful F-110-GE-129 engine provides a greater than 1:1 thrust ratio.

Housed in the nose of the Viper is a multifunction APG-68(V)5 radar. The aircraft can also be equipped with multiple sensors such as the Sniper XR targeting pod and HARM Targeting System (HTS).

The Viper is armed for air-to-air combat with Sidewinders, AMRAAMs, and an internal 20mm 6-barrel Gatling gun. DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Trailer

Key features of the DCS: Fw 190 A-8:

  • Unmatched flight physics that allow you to truly feel what it's like to fly this legend.
  • Highly detailed, six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DOF) cockpit.
  • Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.
  • Accurate Fw 190 A-8 model, squadron markings, and weapons.
  • Detailed modelling the Fw 190 A-8 instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • Battle the Spitfire LF Mk.IX and P-51D Mustang in single and multiplayer games.

DCS-I-16-Steam.jpg.1123d39349e95d6d24142f8244e23c51.jpg

The I-16 was a Soviet, monoplane fighter developed during the 1930s inter-war years. It was innovative for its time with a low-wing cantilever design and retractable landing gear. It was the USSR’s primary fighter at the start of World War 2 where it primarily battled the Bf 109 Emil. In addition to the Second World War, the I-16 was also used in the Spanish Civil War and the second Sino-Japanese War.

Key features of DCS: I-16 by OctopusG include:

  • Detailed animated 3D fighter model
  • True interactive cockpit providing 6DoF
  • Realistic simulation of aircraft systems including electric and fuel flow system, engine system and lighting facilities
  • Realistic simulation of unique mechanical landing gear retraction system
  • High-density textures of the cockpit and external 3 D model providing reflection and bump maps
  • Set of authentic liveries

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS World Helicopters Update

Our current helicopter focus is on the updated Ka-50 for DCS: World Black Shark and DCS: Mi-24P Hind. Both projects are progressing well.

The Ka-50 update will consist of new functions such as Igla air-to-air missiles and missile warning systems with infrared missile jamming systems in addition to a substantial graphics overhaul. While new cockpit functions will be part of a paid upgrade, the entirely new and improved cockpit and external model will be available for free. In addition to a graphics overall and new features, we will also take this opportunity to clean up any remaining bugs in the Ka-50.

Ka-50-New-Model-01-238.jpg.8b4a42e1a8c88b98dd2ff71997624029.jpgKa-50-New-Model-02-238.jpg.8948414ca1246f69850f6dc9bddf453b.jpgKa-50-New-Model-03-238.jpg.0eca616b59c35e8e78cfc2d391367486.jpgKa-50-New-Model-04-238.jpg.a916f9f5904f2b6fe469dd3b1a78d8fd.jpgKa-50-New-Model-05-238.jpg.15f015e90fdcddb703318076bc348097.jpgKa-50-New-Model-06-238.jpg.0273b5ae23c0a73317157bcebbaecca3.jpg

The Mi-24P is the next helicopter we are bringing to DCS World, created by the same the same team behind the DCS: Mi-8MTV2. This iconic attack helicopter will feature both front and back seat cockpits (including network and coop play). We are confident that it will be the most realistic simulation of the Mi-24P ever created and will add more outstanding game play for DCS World.

DCS: World War II Assets Pack Update

This summer we plan to release a major update to the DCS: World War II assets pack. One of these new units will be the Sd.Kfz.184 Elefant. The Elefant was a heavy tank destroyer of the German Wehrmacht in World War II, and it was an updated and improved version of the Ferdinand tank destroyer. Armed with an 88 mm L/71 gun and heavy frontal armor, the Elefant scored a 10 to 1 kill ratio against enemy armor.

Animated Deck Crew and Updated Normandy Map and Other News

Header2019_720-EN.jpg.7ef57cf941a409905d30551588af0402.jpg

Aircraft Carrier Deck Crew Animations

A key aspect of creating the new Nimitz-class aircraft carrier module is the inclusion of animated deck crew. These are particularly vital for launch operations from the bow and waist catapults. This includes yellow shirt plane directors, green shirt catapult crew, red shirt weapons crews, etc. Between the animated deck crew, advanced carrier radio communications, and a highly detailed carrier model, we are striving to create the most detailed and accurate carrier environment ever done for the PC.

Animation of run

Animation of taxi

Animation of crouch

Also, to update you on how we will handle the new carrier in network play, the new carrier will appear in network missions, even if you do not own the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier module. As such, even if you do not own the module, you can still join missions that include it. However, if you do not own this carrier module, you will be unable to start from this carrier, land on it, or experience the deck crew and radio communications.

F-16C Audio

A very important aspect of developing the most realistic F-16C simulation possible will be the audio environment. This includes all the sounds within the cockpit like voices messages and beeps and boops, but also the external engine sounds, fly-by sounds, and all the other sounds that make an F-16C sounds like an F-16C.

The sounds of the Viper

In this video we have a sample of the new audio technology recently developed that or Viper takes advantage of.

Free Normandy Map Update Coming

In May 2017, Urga Media released their DCS: Normandy 1944 map for DCS World. The map focused on the landing beaches of Normandy and points south to encompass the breakout period in June 1944. The entire map also includes portions of southern England and areas outside the landing and breakout area to the south at a lower level of detail. The total map size is 267 x 348 kilometers and includes many period specific buildings, bridges, vehicles, windmills, and other objects that populate the map. This has been the ideal map for World War II combat and even low-altitude helicopter flying.

Since the release and a large update to this map, Urga Media has been very busy to two primary items: The DCS: Syria map and another large, free, update to the Normandy map!

This free Normandy map update will include the following:

  • Improved quality of the noise textures. This will be particularly evident at low altitudes.
  • Improved quality of the coastline, both in Normandy and along the English coast.
  • Processing of fields and city vector data to use new DCS World terrain technologies.
  • Improved quality of the rivers and lakes.
  • Improved quality of roads.
  • Increased the number of unique objects and scenes.
  • Optimization and improved the look of the trees and forests.
  • Optimization of map for virtual reality performance.

We have no planned release date at this time.

Hornet Update

Hornet development continues with focus on the INS/GPS-guided weapons like the JDAM and JSOW, new functions to the air-to-air radar that includes Latent Track While Scan (LTWS) and Multi-Sensor Integration (MSI), and smaller updates like SA page declutter, AIM-7 lofting logic, updated multi-target attack capability for INS/GPS-guided weapons, new HUD symbology like FEDS air-to-air gunnery SIM training mode that displays predicted gun round impact, corrected NVG rendering, and PRECISE coordinate entry for both the Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) and INS/GPS-guided weapons.

AGM-154C JSOW and MSI

AGM-154A JSOW

The Hornet team has their nose to the grindstone working on the Litening targeting pod, the AGM-84D Harpoon anti-ship missile Bearing-Only Launch (BOL) to start, INS and GPS navigation and alignment, and Track While Scan (TWS) radar mode. Now at 25% off, it’s a great time to add the Hornet to your hangar if not already there.

Related to the Hornet, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is making fast progress with the new model and textures, radio communications, and animated deck crew. Later this summer we will be providing much more information about this exciting new module.

YouTube as a DCS World Training Tool

DCS World modules can be challenging to learn but rewarding to master. Despite most DCS World modules including complete documentation and interactive training missions, you sometimes need a little bit more help. Seeing a video demonstration can be very helpful when you are new to a module. YouTube is a great learning tool where you can find tutorials to meet your needs. These range from very structures and serious to lighter videos with more fun and humor. To help you get you started, let's go over some of the best of the best out there, but this is not 100% inclusive of all the great DCS World videos out there. We greatly appreciate all the wonderful channels and we deeply thank you for your support!

On most Tuesdays, we also provide a Tuesday Training post on our Facebook page that lists many of the great offerings available.

RedKite.jpg.c99cebee7a2457e766127c4efb1bc316.jpg

When you want structured, accurate systems tutorials, check out RedKite, his recent videos on F/A-18C are outstanding with great levels of detail and accuracy. His videos are a huge asset to understand and master the intricacies of our modern aircraft.

Grim-Reapers.thumb.jpg.b3458185223c42666d9493911794e87e.jpg

The Grim Reapers are unequalled in the volume and scope of videos they offer. They cover almost every aspect of a module, from controls instruction to online matches and everything in between. Their videos highlight the fun of flying in a squadron and exploring all corners of DCS World.

Jabbers.jpg.8857ff62b180a7ef1069f715411966e4.jpg

Jabbers makes great content and provides a great balance between the styles of RedKite and the Grim Reapers. His videos on carrier landings are particularly well done. He also has some great looks at hardware related to DCS World.

Spudknocker.thumb.jpg.6f6387330237737f919497c52150ad68.jpg

Spudknocker is also a great choice for combining detailed aircraft instruction with entertainment mission videos.

Growling-Sidewinder.thumb.jpg.7f6c28aacc785df329f0514e2e6466cd.jpg

Another good channel is that of Growling Sidewinder where he has a focus on tactics and mission reviews. It’s a great visit to tune your mission tactics.

Crash-Laobi.thumb.jpg.6d2e005b95aa50e1a6dcfb5f2f1fc6da.jpg

We’d suggest sending the kids out for ice cream or putting on your headphones for the more adult-oriented videos from Crash Laobi. He is famous for his 1-minute tutorials and hilarious commentary that could make even a sailor blush. Don't kid yourself though, behind the salty exterior are some best-crafted tutorial videos.

104th Maverick, Rakuzard, GrmlZGaming, MagzTV, ralfidude and pickinthatbanjo all make outstanding content that further expand on the great DCS World video content available.

There are many more out there, not to mention content creators and Twitch Streamers. Please check them out, subscribe to them, and let them know you appreciate their efforts! They are part of what makes DCS World so great!
