Anyone feel swiveling chair’s swiveling a bit inconvenient? Any way to get rid of it?

Recommended Posts

First of all, please forgive me to categorize swiveling chair as an input device or otherwise I don’t know which sub-forum should I put this post...

Ok, get back to the topic.

I know a lot of you use swiveling chair for DCS. So do I, and I mount HOTAS on the chair as well. One thing keeps bothering me is that I can’t stop it from swiveling. I’m ok with that when in free flight, but find that’s not very helping when you need as much stability as you possibly can get, e.g. during AAR, formation flying or carrier landing. Also in VR, unwanted swiveling could cause slight disorientation when trying to reach out for a key on the keyboard...

Is there a way to easily lock the chair from rotate while also easy to unlock that when you do need to use it as a normal office/game chair?

Do you have some pictures from the chair?

Just a normal IKEA chair.

Apply some TIG hot melt glue. That'll fix yr problem.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

Four appropriately sized hose clamps and a couple thin strips of aluminum. Clamp the aluminum to both cylinders of the height adjuster; two clamps above, two below, try to make the strips contour to the cylinder diameter.

Might need to bend the strips to make that easier (don't use 2" stock). All you want to do is add resistance to the pivot.

I have the very same Markus Ikea chair, and don´t find the swivel is disadvantage, how curious.

What kills me though is the small movements of the wheels when I press the rudder pedals, Im looking for solutions.

I took the easy option, and switched to an Ikea Poang.

Doesn’t swivel, it’s very comfortable and having a wooden frame, makes bolting the HOTAS to it very easy.

To what length of modifications are you willing to go for to that chair?

An alternative could be to source a car seat from a junkyard and build your stuff onto that.

Anything that is not crazy and allows me to switch between lock/unlock states in a fairly easy way...

I’ll do something similar if I go for a dedicate Sim pit. At the moment, I need the same chair and computer for work and other stuff...

I actually do have IKEA Poang at my bedroom... haha

As for immobilizing the swivel, I've yet to find a solution that doesn't als damage the height adjustment.

I just took the castor wheels off the chair and the legs have much more grip on the floor.

I took a gasket, some friction pad, and made this. I use the chair for my home office so it has to move around.

I've used drink coasters under each caster wheel. The coasters with cork on top and bottom work best. You can probably find a set at the dollar store.
