Training Missions for the JF-17

You are entering NAV mode before completing alignment of INS.

The systems start ready for position entry and INS alignment without selecting anything, but by going to NAV (or any other mode) you negate this, later requiring all the pages to be called up again.

Basic flow is:

* Switch config before power

* Aircraft power

* Avionics power

* Start engine

* INS align

* Everything else

This isn't exactly true. You put the jet into NAV to quickly access the EFI. The INS button shouldn't be powered at this point. INS shouldn't be supplied power until after light off. You CAN if you want if speed is your goal, but it isn't the proper procedure.

When you do power INS later, the INS runs its BIT. On BIT completion. the middle MPCD is automatically put on the INS page, and the left MPCD is automatically put on the DEST page, even though you hit NAV before.

The procedure up to that point should be (according to DEKA):

1. Power on batter and generators

2. Enable WMCD 1 and 2 and the two buttons above and to the left (forget what they are, basically for COMMs)

3. Turn on the master volume and the volume for the radios and warnings

4. Turn on internal lights if desired

5. Turn on radio

6. Turn on HUD and UFCP

7. Turn on digital engine control, fuel pump, uncage throttle

8. Enter NAV master mode

9. Press engine ignite for 5 seconds. Observe the EFI for nominal light-off

10. Once power has stabilized, set the conditioning system to "Auto"

11. Switch on SAHRS. Observe "SAHRS Align" on the left MPCD

12. Press "INS" on the AACP

13. After a short delay, left and middle MPCDs change to DEST and INS pages respectively

14. If you choose "FAST" align, or move the dial right to "NAV", the middle MPCD will allow you enter heading. If you choose the longer alignment option, you will not be presented to change the heading, because it is not necessary in this mode, though alignment will take longer

... I've finally decided to postpone this mission and begin instead one on the WMD7 Pod and then go into Air-Ground missions before going onto A-A missions.

Hello,

Sorry it took a bit longer than anticipated ... the new Training Mission, about the Targeting Pod, has been added on the first post of this thread.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Thank you Eduardo. i was afraid you stopped making missions.

Not at all, it’s only that this type of missions, with cockpit interactions, take longer to edit and debug. :smilewink:

From today's changelog:

added separated codes for wmd7 laser/lss

Seems I will have to update my training mission :)

Best regards,

Hi @Uboats,

After the update to 2.5.6, I'm having trouble with the X:Cockpit INDICATION TEXT trigger .. I use it to check for specific values on the MFCD pages, but now it doesn't seem to recognize the values anymore.

For example, this trigger condition never gets true, in spite of having the Radar Mode field showing "RWS" (the Flag 8 is true):

6l8EOOZ.jpg

Using the LUA Console of DCS-BIOS, I get this value for the Radar's MFCD (the Right MFCD on this example), element #11#:

-----------------------------------------\
#11#\
RWS\
-----------------------------------------\

Any tip to solve this?

Thanks a lot,

Eduardo

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello,

Sorry that it took so much longer than anticipated, but the Radar ended up being a lot more complex than other aspects of the JF-17 ... the new Training Mission, for the BVR Modes of the Radar, has been added on the first post of this thread.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Is there a trick to getting the JTAC to trigger in Mission 07 - I gave it 10 minutes (I was playing with the AG RADAR GMTI in the meantime) but the JTAC didn't report in and I never got a designation to track ?

No trick, but I edited that mission on DCS 2.5.5 and have not tried it again for 2.5.6 ... let me check and I will get back :thumbup:

Hello,

I've just checked .. I was in doubt, as the JTAC is provided by a User's Script called CTLD, which itself makes use of another Script called MIST; and as the recent DCS update has broke a lot of things .. well, I just had to check that :)

Fortunately, a quick Forum search doesn't uncover any incompatibility for these two scripts (not the case with a much used Script called MOOSE, which is still broken by DCS 2.5.6), so I've just made a quick try of the Mission and found that it is indeed working:

pGV20fq.jpg

May I sugest a retry of the Mission, but this time don't play with the radar .. JTAC takes less than 60 seconds to mark the targets :)

Also, while my messages wait until you click a control or press spacebar before they get cleared, the JTAC Message is shown during about 15 seconds only .. if you get distracted you could potentially miss the message.

Best regards and thanks for reporting this anyway.

Eduardo

I also had trouble with that missiosn because the dialog says the JTAC will contact you when it's ready. So I waited a bit but it never says anything so I used the comms menu's option to "check JTAC status", which opens the dialog Eduardo showed with the laser code and currently lased target. I just proceded from there.

M05 - IFR Landing: Lighting Change in 2.5.6

Hi, thanks for for sharing these excellent missions.

I couldn't help but notice the change in M05's lighting in Open Beta 2.5.6.44266, instead of flying over sunset/moon lit cloud tops, it's now a dark star filled sky @ 19:50 on the 18th Oct 2011

KTsPONm.jpg

As well as lighting changes, moon rise/set seems to have been adjusted in 2.5.6.x and moon rise perhaps won't occur until 22:44

Adjusting the missions date to 12th Oct 2011 illuminates the cloud tops again, though I'm not sure if that was your intention or if you prefer to adjust the time to be closer to sunset ?

pnLaI9X.jpg

Note: There's also a minor issue with the mission as it asks you to adjust the cockpit lighting but it's now lit correctly and the 3 lighting knob "[ ]" indicators never reset/clear. As far as I can tell the rest of the mission plays as intended in 2.5.6

Thanks a lot for the input ... you are correct, as this is a training mission I didn't want total darkness, but I haven't had time to re-check all the missions on 2.5.6 .. I did note that the VPC Mod stopped working, so I deleted the M05 version that used that Mod to have a better illuminated landing airbase, pity :(

I will check the M05 mission and adjust its date & time as you suggest .. I will have to edit the others then, as all of them are date sequenced :)

Best regards,

Eduardo

@Rudel_chw I've bundled up the Missions together with config to add them to a specific section of the Jf-17 Training Missions menu into an OvGME compatible zip file for my own use.

Would it be OK to make this available to other people if they'd find it useful ?

I'm glad that you have used my missions, and I hope that you've found them useful. However, I prefer that they are not re-distributed, as I like to have the statistic of how many times each has been downloaded .. it's a nice incentive for me, and to gauge user interest.

Once I've finished a larger and more complete set of missions, I will then probably place them on the User Files Section of this Website, in the form of a User Training Campaign for the JF-17.

I do appreciate a lot that you are asking me about this in advance, as I've seen in the past other people just taking things without asking first, so thanks a lot for being so respectful.

Best regards,

Eduardo
