Yes. In a helicopter you can hover behind trees and AI won’t see you.

That is the thing that will make helicopter modules like 10 000x more capable and perform the tasks required from them.

Get the trees LOS affect radars, optical targeting systems, missiles, AI vision and some HEI ammunition, but leave the AP ammunition to fly through from few trees at least.

I so hope the thing isn't next to be something where a one tree is front of a KA-50/AH-1 and no AI sees it :D (Yeah, I hope they have figured the thing out).

Only ED and testers know how well it works. Would love a demo flight of a Ka-50 hiding out behind trees and getting shot at. :)

Conflicting Answers

A question to the testers in case they know and are at liberty to answer. If i am not mistaken, ED's map building tools and techniques are in constant development and thus each new map should be more detailed and advanced than the ones that came before. So i reckon the new Caucasus will be better on various fronts than NTTR in its current iteration. SoH would then be even better than the 2.5 Caucasus version.

Now, NTTR looks realy amazing overall. For helicopter pilots though, hovering over the ground at a couple of feet, the terrains flatness and close up low texture quality really shows.

First, do you have any info whether SoH will be build with new techniques or engine enhancements that give more grainularity to the ground (small rocks, holes, cracks etc. generally more uneven/rugged surface) including HD textures when looking from 2-1 meters height?

If that is the case, might we see this transferred over to NTTR at some later point as well?

Caucasus 2.5 is an extensive upgrade of the existing map. Unlike NTTR, Normandy and the upcoming SoH maps, it was not created from scratch, so while it will be much better than the old 1.5 map, it doesnt use everything the other new maps might.

do guys think Caucasus will be the 'fullest or most detailed' map compared to NTTR and Normandy? Or will it be way better than the old one, but because its derived from the old and due to its sheer size won't be as detailed and high poly as the more recent ones?

See post above yours.

New Caucasus / Caucasus 2.5, whatever you want to call it will use all of the technologies and items used in Nevada and Normandy.

 So which is it?

1) Doesn't use all

2) Use all?

It's simply this, its an upgrade of the old map instead of a ground up creation. It uses some tech from the new maps, but not 100%, as a bonus it's also the first map using Speedtrees.

So it sounds the 3 existing maps will all have very minor pros and cons; all in all they will be fantastic in their own ways.

Then, at least it sounds like, SoH might be the creme de la creme once it is released as it will have all of the new goodies (except still TBD on SpeedTrees IIRC).

Good stuff, NTTR looks great in 2.2 and Caucasus 2.5 looks great in the videos. At the end of the day that's all that matters...that the maps look top notch (even if another map may have one small enhancement over it but one other small tradeoff)

No. The new Caucasus is going to be the first one using them

Correct, and right now I know of no plans to add them to NTTR or Normandy, although I hope they change their minds on Normandy, NTTR is probably fine as is, but I wouldnt be mad if they did as well :)

I think if it's a big success in Caucasus, they'll come back to Normandy, IMEO :)

Yeah, I am not sure how that works, it is a 3rd Party map, and I dont know the cost and/or how it works going back into the map to add them, if its a lot of work, etc. So we will see...

Even strait of hormuz has no speedtree. It Will be discussed by ED. It’s a huge work. I think new maps after strait of hormuz get it standard. Vietnam Will be immersive new step in map envirement. :D

Well I hope 2.5 is coming pretty soon as I've just uninstalled 1.5.8 and 2.2 in prep for a new OS install and a move to a dedicated VR room.

I won't reinstall until 2.5 is out (but I will install A-10C v1.1.1.1, Black Shark 1.0.2 and Black Shark 2 v1.1.1.1 to keep me smiling until then).

Oh - and FC2 :)

And honestly I am not sure a map like SoH would be worth the work and cost of speedtrees. It was important for the Black Sea map with all the wooded areas. I would like to see it in Normandy just because I want them to be able to improve the hedgerows as well :)

Sure that would be great, but the cost of it? Is normandy sold enough too get speedtree in it? Only ED can answer this. :D

Going for a totally fresh install? It was advised to keep the other versions around as 2.2 will pull files that are already local on your system to cut down the download time.

Unfortunately I had to remove them as I am switching around my SSDs as well. I have a fast, fibre connection, though, and as long as the download speed from ED servers or torrent is at its normal speed for me, it won't take too long.

I'm wondering about the sales too.

I think the Normandy map looks gorgeous but its bad rep regarding its poor performance makes it a no go for me. If Normandy could benefit from Speedtree then I'll probably buy it, but if there is not enough sales I don't think it will be cost effective for ED to invest time and ressources.
