New machine and steam VR settings

Just wanted to share my experience after I started using my new machine.

I was initially disappointed the VR performance had not increased, I was getting the same performance as my 4790k ( which wasnt bad ).

I was having a play around with the settings, in particular steamVR. The resolution was set to auto, and the each eye resolution was much higher than the reported resolution of my Vive cosmos at 100%

Decided to set it to the reported resolution manually which was about 50% of what steam had set, obviously the clarity dropped but I was getting 90 fps.

Decided to play around eventually setting it to 90% and getting a steady 45fps on the ground and 60+ in the air.

It may help some who are having problems with fps to try and find a balance between the steam VR resolution and your desired frame rate.

Thanks

Think we all tried everything and found a way to make it "playable", glad it's just not us alone and the dev's expererience the same :D

But what are your other ingame settings once you drop steamvr ss to 90%?

I have it up to 150% on the O +.

Setting steamvr resolutions to my o+ would make the visual experience very poor with lots of pixelated cockpit and outside view.

I get along with dcs low graphic settings, dcs PD set at 1.2 and steamVR supersampling at 140%

I keep my settings pretty low, I don't mind jaggys so much, I prefer higher frames over anything else.

Wow, that is pretty low

No Shadows

No MSAA

No Anisotropic Filtering

Interesting you leave SSLR on

Do you use fpsVR?

if so, what are your:

GPU avg frametimes?

CPU avg frametimes?

Thank you,

Yeah dont worry, already paying the emotional price for this purchase lol :)

BIGNEWY are you on stable or beta, for the first time I have gone back to stable as beta lighting I dis like.

I use all as I have to test, but mostly open beta. Many like the lighting, but I am sure personal preference will play a part if you dislike it.

It makes the scale of the cockpit look better for me and helps with some cross eye I was getting when looking at the HUD and the HUD frame.

@Bignewy, that is a rather high-end system you have got there. I would advise with SSLR turned off, you could turn on some level of antiliasing and other eye candy on. Some good allowance.

I like sharp visuals aleast with a playable framerate.

Edit : I noticed your Pupilary distance in dcs vr setting is on 10, doesn't that make the cockpit rather huge and the pilot very small.

I dont use the pilot and would rather the cockpit felt the same size as me in real life, and as the name would suggest I am a big chap.

also I find it easier on the eyes and solves a cross eye problem I was getting

Hi BN....congrats on your new build....did you change everything but the video card correct?

Anyway....how do you feel without using shadows at all?

I mean, the cockpit with shadows off or flat is really strange and not so pretty...it has a big hit, so a cockpit only shadow option would be interesting

I look forward to new cards later in the year to change mine....

Hopefully one of those, your job (ED) on DCS code and the new reverb g2 will take DCS VR experience to a new level.

Going back to the shadows settings, now that you will try with shadows low, probably you won't be able to go back :)

You really have to take the headset into account. On a Rift I would never play without shadows, but on a Reverb I do not miss them at all.

Yeah I think you may be right here, with the cosmos it never bothered me, I used to have a dell visor and it was much lower resolution.
