33-DFTC
Hello folks, I'm looking for some material to read while the module is being crafted by Razbam. All sources are welcome as far as they are free to read/watch or purchased through retail. Perhaps this thread will inspire more people to get interested in this aircraft and know a lot more about it. Thank you for your contribution and your help. --- Harrier GRx - Joint Force Harrier by Adrian Orchard (Harrier GR4) / contributor : Ocelotunit - Haynes Hawker Siddeley/BAe Harrier Manual / contributor : Cunctator - Sea Harrier over the Falklands by Commander "Sharkey" Ward / contributor : Cunctator - Hostile Skies by David Morgan / contributor : ESAc_matador - RAF Harrier Ground Attack - Falklands by Jerry Pook / contributor : whiteladder AV-8B Harrier - NATOPS Flight Manual Navy Model AV--8B/TAV--8B [download link] / contributor : curioso007 - AV-8B Harrier II Units of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm by Lon Nordeen / contributor : Cunctator - AV-8B Harrier II Units of Operation Iraqi Freedom by Lon Nordeen - AV-8B Harrier II Units of Operation Enduring Freedom by Lon Nordeen - A Nightmare's Prayer : A Marine Harrier pilot's war in Afghanistan by Michael Franzak / contributor : Cunctator Edited April 24, 2017 by 33-DFTC Adding ressources There are only two types of aircraft, fighters and targets. - Major Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson, USMC
Ocelotunit
Joint Force Harrier by Adrian Orchard details a lot of systems and combat uses during his deployment to Afghanistan, pretty good read, nice details about the flight characteristics at high altitude and different types of weapons. It's about the Harrier Gr4 but is still relevant imo. https://g.co/kgs/eP6mk5
Cunctator
I can recommend the Haynes Hawker Siddeley/BAe Harrier Manual. A very nice introduction to the Harrier family. https://haynes.com/en-gb/microsites/harrier/ Sea Harrier Over The Falklands, by Mr. Sea Harrier Commander “Sharkey” Ward. Not unbiased but a great read. http://aviationbookreviews.com/review-sea-harrier-over-the-falklands-commander-sharkey-ward/ Lon Nordeen's AV-8B Harrier II Units of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, detailing the day attack Harrier ops during that conflict. A full scale war war very different from today's endless counter insurgency campaigns. https://ospreypublishing.com/av-8b-harrier-ii-units-of-operations-desert-shield-and-desert-storm A Nightmare's Prayer: A Marine Harrier Pilot's War in Afghanistan, by Michael Franzak. A well written memoir, about the authors deployment to Afghanistan flying the Night Attack Harrier. https://www.amazon.com/Nightmares-Prayer-Marine-Harrier-Afghanistan/dp/1451608071
33-DFTC
Thank you for your inputs)) New additions are welcomed, the goal of this thread is to gather ressources that has been read by the community. It's pretty easy to shop around and pick some random books on the topic but I rather trust your opinion instead of buying "unrated" books. curioso007
I can recommend "NATOPS FLIGHT MANUAL NAVY MODEL AV--8B/TAV--8B" https://info.publicintelligence.net/AV-8B-000.pdf Lots of technical data. and remember... "We are waiting"
whiteladder
RAF Harrier Ground Attack - Falklands by Jerry Pook. Pook was a pilot in No(1) Squadron and fought in the Falklands War. Very interesting read and has a detailed description of RAF CAS procedures.
33-DFTC
Ressources updated. Thanks for the suggestions. I already bought three books from the list and I'm currently reading A Nightmare's Prayer from Major Franzak. I like it so far (I'm over half the book) as we can have a first hand account of aerial operations over a modern "battlefield". However, this book is more about how to endure this kind of war - COIN - than actual technical details of how to operate the Harrier in an hostile environment. There are only two types of aircraft, fighters and targets. - Major Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson, USMC
