It could achieve over 350mph (~560kmh) on the deck so it was pretty damn good for its day.

Unfortunately the climb rate left a lot to be desired.

Still I hope we get it even if it is just the AI for a while, Normandy without a Typhoon!!!

is any tempest/typhoon airworthy today ??

Not currently...

It's funny how people usually are unaware that the DB605 displacement is actually ~36 litres while the Merlin displacement is 27 litres, a way smaller engine for the same output power.

Check out the weight of the Merlin v the BD605.... The BD605 is only slightly heavier.

They used alloys for the engine block. Two very different principles, the British wanted to have a rugged engine that could be maintained in the field whilst the 109 were more likely to swap out the engine and have the old engine fixed elsewhere.

At least that is how I have been led to believe.

did i mention anything about merlin i write griffon. hmm:mad:

and the power in merlin case comes from bigger boost levels at which engine can run safely 18.3lbs would transfer to ruthly 2.3 ATA + merlin can run 3000rpm vs 2850 DB605 w/MW50

100/130 fuel grade man

i think the engine block was cast aluminum alloys but cylinder liners were made of steel i think

:lol::lol: Didn't mean you mate, just a "fun tip" with regard to your comment .

Now you say, interesting thing that about boost and rpm. So in the end what was a better engine? Makes oneself wonder.

both were great engines. designers faced difrent problems like in my opinion was the most important fuel quality. take note that before MW50 introduction DB605 was limited to something about 2700rpm and 1.35-1.4ATA which is very low boost compare to allied cunterparts

even today engines like merlin find many aplications like boat racing air racing drag racing etc:)

I can not agree. First of all, German bombers. Their design absolutely far from English or American, especially Ju-88 and Do-215.

Inverted V for Bf-109. Bf-109 in general, of course, could be consider close to Spitfire ideas but the last was planned as a low wing loaded fighter, though 109 was moderate class and went to high wing load class eventually. Spitfire was not good E-fighter even up to Mk IX, though last G and K were.

190A was initially planned as E-fighter with super-effective ailerons, Dora was superb at this field. So, I can not find foreign prototypes for 190 in early 40'.

Variable pressure ratio blowers for DB-6XX series

Jumo-213 was absolutely far from any engine, though its blower vanes could be inspired with Russian AM-35. Or not. Nobody knows exactly now, I think. But their air mass flow automatic regulator was unique.

Etc, etc, etc...

Of course though, and good wartime engineer is going to look at what it would be going up against, and form its designs with that in mind. Its why captured aircraft we captured and not just destroyed. Germans were on the top of their game back then, I doubt they needed to copy much if anything, but were smart enough to evaluate shortcomings of what they had, and improve.

Is this module gonna come included with a campaign ? Or is a separate campaign planned for it ? I don't get how the current Fw 190 and Bf 109 have nothing available for them. Get the map + ww2 assets + the plane and then design your own missions in the editor. Kinda ridiculous.

Potentially due to Normandy not being the theatre these luftwaffe aircraft saw much action... The allied aircraft campaigns are based upon actual mission reports etc.

If this is the case we will definitely get some for the A8

I don't think many are expecting the FW-190 A-8/F-8 to be any different to the FW-190 D9 or the Bf 109 K-4. There might be a "challenge campaign", but it will not be a historical set of missions... just a way to get some practice or test your skills a bit.

The Normandy map only has a single Lufwaffe airfield (Évreux), and even that is right at the map edge. So it makes it a bit difficult to include a historical campaign. That's why there are multiple campaigns for the Allied aircraft, but nothing for the Germans... yet.

A lot will depend on the new WW2 maps. Maybe there will be something suitable, that will allow a campaign to be built? But given that these maps have not even been announced yet, I think there will be a very long wait (~ years) until anything is available.

Most current aircraft have instant action, training and the mission generator, I know there are some DLC campaigns in the works, as well as challenge campaigns included, so more than nothing.

For either of the already available German planes ?

Well..

There is a fw190 flying so there is no reason why they couldn't get a real sound, however it is not an A8 it is an A5 but they have the same 801-D2 engine

hmm for example cristin eagle 2 got p-51 sound and on the world is probably like couple thousand cristin eagles 2 flying and probabyly 10 times more planes using the same engine

Christen Eagle 2 was made by Magnitude 3, not ED.

i know but still it is unimaginable easier to record christen eagle 2 than fw190 a-8

i got small qestion about fw190 a-8. will it have own sound or it will have generic p-51 sound ??

The FW 190 A-8 (and F-8 ) has a radial engine. Not having a radial engine sound-set to go with it would be a major set back. So, I really hope they record new audio for it!

Fixed the auto-emoticon conversion of (F-8)... although it is, indeed, appropriate!

sounds are freakin important, it would be awesome if they record sounds from that plane!

Is ED in contact with the flying heritage collection?

Should be.

ED works with the Fighter Collection and, according to Nick Grey, they are in touch with other collections. From the Q&A (REF)...

Q. 2. As an owner of real WWII aircraft, does this ever give Nick Grey the privilege to interact/inspect the aircraft of other WWII collections? ...

A. All the time. Very small world, we are mostly all friends
