Link16/MIDS capabilities

Swift.

Recommended Posts

Minus those things you listed link 16 currently already does far more than sadl on hsd page currently does on the a10c. Ed for whatever reasons be, have only provided a very gimped and bare bones functionality relative to link 16 on hornet, and to what will come on f16.

Irl sadl should be capable of many similar things that link 16 can do, such as show unknown and verified enemy air contacts detected by other sadl equipped fighters or via gateway with link 16 fighter aircraft as well as awacs.

A10c hsd page also lacks sam site listings and thier radius that would be present via data cartridge as you currently have in the hornet and will see in thef16 with the next upcoming patch

And that i have easily determine purely from what's ive read from the actual a10c fm.

I have a doubt regarding the Hornet Link 16 (can also be called Datalink?) :

Created a mission with :

- ownship F/A-18C

- allied AWACS

- enemy AWACS and fighters

- enemy Naval vessel Moskva

Every unit appears at the SA page when the my datalink is active, except the enemy ship Moskva.

Is it supposed to also appear, or are the naval vessels WIP for the datalink ?

I think you should also be able to transmit a designated ground target position with MIDS, no?

Possibly, but then it's not implemented in DCS yet.

Yeah, I meant IRL. I'm not entirely sure of what exactly we're supposed to be doing with the MIDS A and MIDS B throttle switches, but I'm guessing that target sharing might fit there. There's also a TXDSG option on the SA page that could be an option to broadcast your designated AG target. That's all speculation, but one way or another, some form of target/designation sharing should be possible.

So my doubt rises again... does an AWACS can detect enemy naval vessels position and send it to the F/A-18C via Datalink ?

AFAIK, the AWACS platforms that we have in the sim are able to detect only air targets. We'd need something like JSTARS or a P-3C with AG radar, for ground targets.

They are the PTTs for MIDS voice.

I saw video on youtube that the hornet can also receives DL from the Aegis class destroyer (which I don't believe its modeled in DCS) so it should be possible to see detected ship I guess.

If only this was the case - on multiplayer having hostile assets such as tankers / awacs allows the opposite team to review the location of nearby ground units in jtac/tac command.....

Can you elaborate? You mean that if a Redfor AWACS is present, Red team can see ground units in close proximity to their JTAC units on the F10 map?

Is that because its not fully implemented? RL ground contacts are displayed.

I don't know if and how ground contacts are displayed for the F/A-18C IRL. In DCS there are currently only airborne contacs implemented on the Hornets DL.

Ah they're only used for that then? I know they're used for MIDS voice (wondering if we'll get that), but I was wondering if they did anything else as well, thanks. Funny thing is that our throttle 3D model doesn't appear to have the MIDS PTTs, only the COMM1 and COMM2 PTTs.
