After mirage ,a-7 and harrier)

None of these aircraft are available in DCS. As much as I love western Cold War era jets, I think it would be wiser to wait for them to release at least one bird and get it to a working state (i.e. fix the post-release bugs) and maybe only after that we should wonder about what's next. IMHO :)

I think this is case of trying to count chickens before the rooster has reached puberty. :)

id take either f-102 or the f-106 :D but f-106 has a gun, either way if it ever happens (i think razbam has made one for fsx) air-to-air nukes is a must

Let's see them get something to the e-store before discussing this aircraft should be modeled after that one is done.

Before F-102 we will have A-7 and harrier but not before 2017.

F-102 would be miserable to fly in a combat capacity, as Falcons and FFARs were both very ineffective. The F-106 with a gun might be fun, although the missile problems would be the same as with the F-102. From accounts I have read from Robbin Olds, the AIM-4 sounds like an incredibly frustrating weapon to use.

I'd much rather see someone make a Fiddler...

They've been officially developing planes for DCS for 3 years and have yet to release anything. Given that, it seems unlikely they'd suddenly release 3-4 planes in the next 2 years.

Well, not quite. LN and VEAO have both said a large part of development of the first aircraft is actually building up a suite of tools and base code templates, and in theory once you've done that core work once, your dev times should be shorter.

Razbam, while quiet, do have a longstanding history of sim development, so I'd not be suprised they've gone a similar route, which means it's entirely possible that once they get the Mirage out the door, they'll be able to do other aircraft at a quicker rate.

Back on topic, an F-102 would be quite interesting, but I can think of others I'd rather have.

I definitely agree that the module development pace will probably quicken once the 3rd parties get more experience. Razbam has released a lot of modules for FSX/P3D and have a reputation for quality and depth. Things will get better with time.

The F-102 certainly is an interesting aircraft, but I hope (and suspect) that the 3rd party developers will start thinking about the "total experience". FSX/P3D is a good platform for trying out different aircraft for the flight experience (save for the fact that the PFM/EFM DCS flight models are generally much better IMHO). But DCS is about combat and that requires a much more complete environment.

LNS certainly has the right idea adding theaters (planned that is) to it's upcoming releases. The current uses for an F-102 are really limited and not terribly realistic.

The A-7E has lots of potential uses on both NTTR and Strait of Hormuz. The A-7 actually hit targets in the Strait of Hormuz in 1988 and the addition of the F-14A (set in the mid-late 1980s) makes it a highly relevant module that I will LOVE to fly and fight.

The Mirage will also have plenty of "peers" with the upcoming modules and also makes sense. It would be great if ED and the 3rd party devs really work as a team to develop aircraft, AI, and theaters that really work together. The current collection of WWII aircraft (announced) and the Normandy map are a perfect example. USN naval assets from the mid-1980s to 2000s with the Strait of Hormuz map also makes great sense (F-14A/B, F/A-18C, A-7E, F-5E for IRIAF, etc).

Hopefully the Korean war modules will also get a theater and AI to tie things together.

But more outlier modules should be developed judiciously IMHO.

As curiosity the F-102 combat record in Vietnam:

One Deuce* was shot down during an escort mission over Laos by a North Vietnamese MiG-21 - Nguyễn Văn Cốc - on 3 February 1968, the pilot, Lieutenant Wallace Wiggins, being killed.

The F-102s scored no air-to-air kills themselves.

There are tales that they performed some ground attacks, using FFARs or even Falcons, but the Deuce was generally unsuited to the attack mission.

A total of 15 F-102s was lost in the conflict; sources are confused as to the number shot down, destroyed on the ground, or lost in accidents.

* 3rd February 1968 - F-102A 56‑1166 -509 FIS, 405 FW, USAF, Udorn.

About 35 miles east of Sam Neua.

Hit by missile from MiG-21 in tail - did not detonate.

Attempted to return towards Laos.

Crashed in flames.

1 Lt Wallace Luttrell Wiggins (KIA)
