Cornered and Alone

Black Hawk down, we have a Black Hawk down. Scramble into the air and help the downed crew escape enemy capture.

 

Requires: Persian Gulf Map, (one of the following): ** Mi-8 or UH-1 are required for rescue. **

 

This mission takes place at night, and requires teamwork and cooperation for a successful outcome. The downed helicopter crew will contact you via radio (via repeatable radio messages), and give you tasking on enemy locations as they make their way to a rescue site. A Mi-8 or UH-1 will be needed to extract them.

Best played with: 4+ players.

Approx time for completion: 1:00 hr

A-10C, A-10C II, AV-8B, F-14B, F-16, F/A-18C, JF-17, M-2000's, Su-25T, Su-33

 

List of flyable helicopters:

Mi-8, UH-1, Ka-50, AH-64, SA-342L,M, Mini, Mistal

Big update, mostly includes adding F-16's and JF-17's. My apologies for getting these updates out late. Life has been rather busy.

No apologies needed, you are so very kind by sharing these missions for free. I've really enjoyed several of them, tough nowadays I'm a bit retired from the MP scene and instead I'm enjoying flying solo ... maybe it's me, just getting older :)

Hello and Welcome to the Normandy Variable mission.

 

This is an all-in-one style Air-Ground, Air-Air attack mission for the Normandy map, and supports every flyable platform in DCS. All Fixed wing aircraft start at either Saint Pierre du Mont, Deux Jumeaux, or Cricqueville-en-Bessin. While all the helicopters start at Cricqueville-en-Bessin. There is also a fleet sailing North - South, starting just north of the Land Based spawning airfields. The Kuznestov has 3 Su-33’s, the Stennis has 4 F-18’s, the Tarawa has 4 AV-8B’s, and the Carl Vinson has 2 slots for “Mod of Interest” (Defaulted to F-18’s).

 

** Special Notes for Platforms

- AH-64, 3rd and 4th slot = no FCR/RFI

 - Bf-109, 3rd and 4th slot = no flare gun

 - C-101CC, 2nd slot in respective group = no IFR hood, 3rd slot in respective group = solo

 - C-101EB, 2nd slot = rear seat NS430

 - CEII, 3rd slot = solo

 - I-16, 3rd and 4th slot = landing torch

 - L-39C, 3rd slot = solo; 4th slot = solo, no gunsight (with NS430)

 - L-39ZA, 3rd and 4th slot = solo

 - M-2000C , 3rd and 4th slot = DDM Sensor

 - Mi-24, 3rd and 4th slot = no IR suppressor

 - Mi-8, 3rd slot = no IR suppressor, no additional armor, no cargo halfdoor; 4th slot = no IR suppressor

 - MiG-19, 3rd and 4th slot = no RWR

 - Mosquito, 3rd and 4th slot = no flare gun

 - UH-1, 3rd and 4th slot = no IR suppressor

 - Yak-52, 2nd slot in respective group = solo

 

Ground Mission Difficulty definitions:

Unattended Depots: No enemy return fire.

Easy - Intended to be completed by a single player. Air defense includes small arms and vehicle mounted machine guns.

Medium - Can be completed by a more competent single player, but really intended for 2+ players. Air defense includes AAA vehicles (guns) some with radar capability. And a possible short range IR SAM unit. (AAA for WWII)

Hard - Intended for a small group, or team, of players. Air defense includes multiple SAM's, both IR and Radar. (AAA, Flak for WWII)

 

Air Mission Difficulty definitions: (These missions are mainly built for 1-2 players, except for the "Large Cap Group's" air missions. Those are more suited for larger groups of player's flying together.)

Easy - Either a few non-retaliatory aircraft, or a single fighter or two with guns only. (Vietnam and Modern enemies may have IR missiles)

Medium - One or more retaliatory aircraft. Short range missiles possible.

Hard - Multiple retaliatory aircraft with possibility of both short and long range missiles.

For “Large CAP Group’s” all difficulties have A-A missiles.

 

None of the aircraft have ordinance already loaded. So don't forget to load something!

 

Only Mi-8's, Mi-24's, and Huey's are listed as "Medevac" and are the only ones that can do rescue mission pickups.

 

In order to activate a mission, you MUST select it through the F10 radio menu option.

 

Once completed with a mission, you will have the option of selecting a new mission. If you selected a mission that you no longer wish to complete, or have selected a mission in error, you can use the "Auto-complete" radio option to delete the units and go back to the main menu. ** NOTE - if you select the "auto-complete" option, you can no longer select that mission in the future. **

 

All Helo Missions require at least one helicopter that can pick up troops. That would only be the Mi-8, Mi-24,or the UH-1 at this time.

 

AWAC's is available at 263Mhz (Chan 11 for aircraft that need it, Chan G for Viggen) AWAC is set to Immortal and Invisible.

 

Tanker aircraft (Texaco) is operated on a respawnable script. It is also set to Invisible. If the tanker runs out of fuel, a new one will spawn.

Tanker aircraft is available at 257Mhz (Chan 12 for aircraft that need it)

hey hlfritz, unfortunately I'm not sure. With Crack the Channel, different Red Air assets appear at different times, though I think I know the specific Red Air threat you're talking about. If I'm correct, then THAT Red Air threat was pushed back a little further into the mission (can't remember exactly, but it might be around the 1 hour mark, give or take a few)

Thx. Not been to the track, when I had time I never got to it and now I just do not have time, money, or permission (wife, two kids). Difficult enough to fly DCS!

 

I am just wondering about red air at all. we have fired the mission up a couple times and never see any. we have played over an hour into the mission. we are also having issues with cat launches, may well be a 2.5.6 problem though as some have reported cat issues during the spat of releases. i will say i modded the mission to give everything parking hot start (we do not have the time to do ramp starts, flight time is valuable to us). would just changing that cause an issue? or hosting on a dedicated server for soem reason?

I hear that, got a 1 & 3 year old at home

 

Looking at the mission, I've got the red air threat spawning at 83 minutes. A few other air threats (defense type ones) will spawn when you reach certain parts of the mission, or travel to far to the west.

Hot Parking Spot spawns should not effect the mission, as long as you are simply just changing the pre-existing aircraft from "Takeoff from Ground" to "Takeoff from parking hot"

The problem with the carrier spawning is unfortunately something I have no control over.

another question: i did not notice but is persistence enabled in the Crack the Channel mission? Due to our limited time, it is not likely we would even get to the point of red air activity.

nope, nothing for persistence. That's something you'd have to set up on your own. Crack the Channel is one of the longest duration missions I've made, so what I would recommend for your red air activity is edit the time for it to spawn. Their triggers are way at the bottom of the list.

Hey Apache, any updates planned for these?

 

I've been using your LAS Variable Attack for training and testing for over a year. Love the scripted encounters that you must activate manually (as opposed to other randomized playgrounds). Would like to see more tasks added, if you have time for this.

 

And once again thanks for your MR campaign, I'm a big fan!

Hey there Minsky. Really glad to hear that you're putting Las Vegas Variable through it's paces. About adding additional missions, I never really considered it, there's already something like 2,000 units on that map. Opening it in the ME is a test of my little laptops will power. Persian Gulf variable is in development, but these types of missions take a really long time to make, so don't expect it too soon.

What you can expect soon though (next couple days) is the majority of the missions in this thread will be getting an update.

@ Minsky, Since they were updated using open beta, they may not work on 2.5.5. Haven't tested it on anything but the most current OB.

 

@hlfritz, you just reminded me that I wanted to put a # of players recommended, and approx time to completion note on the missions. Oh well, maybe next time. None are really persistent, though there are some people doing servers that run them for a few hours than restart. All my missions are able to be completed relatively quickly. (I.e. 45 min - 2 hours)

A really quick mission would be Under the Fuzz. 30 min max. The others really depend on the number of players.
