Grass field WIP

hi this is something ive been playing with for a bit using stock static objects. ive always wanted to make marker cones like seen in GA farm fields but had issues making the switch between fusion360 which i know to 3dsmax which is like a different language.

 

anyway so far i have managed to make a yellow , white and red/white marker cone as its own static object. they are very basic atm but i plan to make more detailed models of these cones with better textures as well as some new hangers and static field objects.

 

i have also tried to add ground textures to a flat plane to help highlight the runway but this does not work so well as the ground needs to be super flat and also the grass pokes through. will update as i go thanks.

thanks guys , been learning more as i go. today i managed to make a decent traffic cone , and i started work on a slightly detailed hanger. i have been having some texture issues due to having to many segments but ill figure that out soon. the hangers are kind of based of a farm hanger made from corrugated iron sheets. i am pretty happy with it so far and i love that it reflects the sun so well.

 

i have been reading about object collisions and looking at the stock airfield files. i think to have a grass runway done right id have to make a large bit of land that surrounds the runway as the stock airfield seem to do this to. i will play with it and see what i can come up with :P.

 

also yes i will be releasing this to the community if anyone wants to try it. maybe in a few weeks ill have enough to share Version 1.

just some basic pics today, made a simple hanger to add to the mix. im also playing with a layout template to get cones evenly spaces. this is a flat plane placed in ME and then used to line up markers on the dots. works ok but if ground is not super flat it disappears under ground when zooming in to far.

so 1 week on from starting to learn to use 3dsmax and im pretty happy with the progress in my learning. ive been playing with some concepts and seeing what works and what doesnt.

 

i managed to make a collision shell on a flat plane that i could land on but it didnt look good. so i changed tactics and rather then building the runway up i thought to build the surrounds up. i went way to high on the grass and its a massive fps killer but i think if i can make a similar style to the speedtrees it may be doable. anyway ill keep at it and ill post up stuff as i learn and progress.

You can spawn now from these placeable grassfields or just land?

Is that a modified lua script that you load in the mission file or a mod for the entire game?

Wasn't it already introduced some sort of grass fields in DCS World by ED some time ago? Like 1-2 years? I can't find them anymore in Static objects. Were they removed?
