Cougar with F-16

@ Cougar Users

Does your RDR Curser/Enable work out of the box in DCS F-16?

Out of the box? No, it didnt. My workaround was to edit a Foxy Profile for it, these sentences enable the RDR Cursor on the Microstick:

Rem -------------------------------------
Rem Microjoystick: Radar Cursor
Rem -------------------------------------

MIY 5 3 (0 40 60 100) (/H RDR_CURSOR_Switch-Down ) ^ (/H RDR_CURSOR_Switch-Up )
MIX 5 3 (0 40 60 100) (/H RDR_CURSOR_Switch-Left ) ^ (/H RDR_CURSOR_Switch-Right )

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

The Cougar processor, together with its scripting utility, is one of the best features of the TM Cougar .. I dont see the point of paying 70 Euros and lose both features, unless your Cougar stick has died from other causes.

Maybe I didn't understand the other replies completely, but the microstick does work "out of the box"

I have the TM Cougar HOTAS and use it for the Viper (side stick and throttle).

Stick gimbal is busted and I'm waiting for replacement parts, but other than that everything still works. It's completely original (no tsuba or anything)

I only use CCP, so no Foxy or TARGET, but the microstick RX and RZ (iirc) are working just fine. I can select the axis in DCS.

System specs:

i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU

HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM

I don't think you did understand because it never worked "out of the box" in DCS, not now and not in the past.

I never could assign a Cougar microstick axis in DCS, it's not even selectable. Are you sure you can? It only works as posted by Rudel_chw (but works with various Digital Type statements, not only with Type 5).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Check this thread

Especially my last post :D

Still not sure why and how, but it works without mods and without additional software (except for CCP)

Hello,

Yes, you are correct .. but in order for the Microstick to be detected you may need to fiddle a bit on the Cougar's Control Panel, as sometimes the Microstick Axis end-up not being "seen" by DirectX, as DirectX can only handle 8 axes by device but the Cougar reports 10 axes.

For example, here I reordered the axes so that the Microstick's are within the 8 first columns of Windows Axes:

tRCeMZX.jpg

Once all the axes I want are within the first 8, then DCS will detect them, like this:

cX2ztVm.jpg

However, I still prefer to define the axes within Foxy as digital axes, because it makes for better control of the microstick as it axis travel is very short.

Best regards

I did try that before i posted my reply but on my DCS install they didn't show up.... somehow. Maybe a reboot or unplug/re-plug was needed?

On the CCP, when you readjust the + of the axis, you have then to press "apply" and then the configuration will be downloaded to the Cougar. After that, you start DCS and it should recognize the axes.

I did that but no recognition in DCS for whatever reason.

But i only tried once, since i'm using the MIX,MIY statements i don't really need it. Gives you more control of the speed of the microstick.

Did you restart DCS as well? Pretty sure you need to.

Make sure you have user mode axis respond enabled. Also, I had to manually calibrate the axis to get proper results

Guys why every time I start dcs first do I have to top up the profile on the cougar? It's normal

Not normal, the Cougar has its own memory and processor .. it will store its current profile even when disconnected from the computer.

You can even carry it to another PC, that has no Thrustmaster software whatsoever, and it will still work fine, as to Windows it looks like a USB keyboard together with a standard 8 axis joystick.
